This is a beer already brewed in the 1950’s by Dupont Brasseries. As Dupont has extra fermentation capacity now, Olivier has the luxury of crafting some new brews, or re-creating some old specialties. There were two test versions of Monk’s Stout, both at 5.2% abv. One was dry and roasty, and another is said to be a little more rounded. Monk’s Stout is available in 33cl bottles and 20 liter kegs in Belgium.

Aroma is smoky with some toffee, caramel and chocolate. Taste is rich maltiness paired with some bitterness. The rich malt flavor does finish somewhat flat though. Appearance is a black body with beige head that retains moderately

33cl bottle. APPEARANCE: black beer, nice stable beige head. NOSE: caramel, burned malts, rather sweet, chocolate, some coffee. TASTE: chocolate and burned malts. Some coffee aftertaste. Quite outspoken malty. Decent but not really balanced enough.

A great sweet stout with an interesting taste. Nice malt. Mouthfeel is fairly light. Some bitterness in the finish. Pretty good.

Black foamalicous pour...my glass is literally overflowing right now. Aroma -lots of roasted malts, coffee, some lactose sweetness. Taste - bitter roast up front, slightly herbal, some black liquorice, fairly dry, lots of coffee like bitterness, very mellow but a nice amount of complexity. Really nice stout!

330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Wow, what an incredible beer. Lots of earthy, nutty malts with huge cocoa-dusted coffee cake flavours swirling about the glass. Ok, it’s a touch fizzy and light but it’s no real criticism when a stout is as tasty and enjoyable as this.

Bottle. Black with a massive, foamy, beige head. Nose is super subdued caramel, mainly roasted malt. Taste is a little bit sweet, little bit bitter. Light body, thin texture, and quickly gone taste. Drinkable and nice enough, but too thin for a stout.

For what I paid for this beer, it is very disappointing... particularly for a class brewer like Dupont. Average at best...
