draught in the brewery taproom and bottle in moeder lambic fontinas
dark brown, earthy, roasty, dry, light cocoa, yeast esters a little richer than a dry irish stout but less fruitiness than some Belgian stouts.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
33cl bottle at Vooruit, Ghent (4 IX 2015). This medium bodied Monk’s Stout is an easy drinker, a modest and even classic brew. If not, it could be a great introduction to stouts. The tan is pitch black, with a fine gloomy glare. The head is vivid and cassonade brown, yet swift. The nose has clear dark, strong coffee flavours, with a lovely roastness which comes back in the tasting. This taste is very solid. The mouthfeel is not that bitter - the bitterness comes at the end - and even dry, yet the body has a light sweetness (very subtle, though!), making it a rather mild stout. The roasted malts and yeasts give character to the brew, together with lots of creamy (?) dark chocolate and of course ristretto features. A classic, nicely balanced Belgian stout.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at the brewery, near black with a lasting tan foam, coffee and funky nose, dry-roasty and bitter, a bit watery, with hints of earthy-herbal funk.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
330ml bottle. Black with much tan foam. Aroma is tar, smoke and an interesting raisin and plummy fruitiness. Taste has those same elements. Feels like it has the yeast from their saison working away in there. Carb maybe a little high. Not as good as I hoped but still pretty decent.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
En ganska snäll stout med en tydlig belgisk touch. Helt ok, men inte Duponts starkaste kort.
