This is a beer already brewed in the 1950’s by Dupont Brasseries. As Dupont has extra fermentation capacity now, Olivier has the luxury of crafting some new brews, or re-creating some old specialties. There were two test versions of Monk’s Stout, both at 5.2% abv. One was dry and roasty, and another is said to be a little more rounded. Monk’s Stout is available in 33cl bottles and 20 liter kegs in Belgium.

Bottle at home with Indian food. Decent- was expecting a bit more. Fairly light bodied for a stout. Belgian notes obvious but not overpowering . Not blown away. Nice and clean/dry in the finish.

Draught at Pigalle. Roasted malt, cocoa, coffee, quite yeasty, funky notes, dry peppery finish. Pleasant Belgian-style stout.

Dark brown to black colored, yeast sediment, small beige to tan non lasting head. Aroma is yeast, roasted malt, chocolate and bit roasty acidity. Taste is medium to low sweet malt, roasted malt, some chocolate, lots of yeast, peppery-spicey, some burnt malt, hints of acidity. Dry roasty and peppery finish. Medium- bodied and moderate carbonation. You can tell it’s a Belgian brew and not a very thrilling stout... (bottle, Scout Club Irish Pub, Samobor, CRO)

4/3/2011 1:52:52 AM Bottle from Beer Planet. Dark brown body with smooth tan head. Nose of bread, malts, some chocolate and vanilla. Taste is also malty with bread and slightly smokey. Nice texture and balance. Pretty good for this brewer.

Dark brown to black colour with a brown frothy fading head. Aromas of roast malts, light earthy with some fruity notes and instant coffee on the back end. Lightly tangy, soft texture and medium bodied. Offers dark chocolate sweetness with some acidity and some dry bitterness. Light dark chocolate medium lasting finish.

Zwart bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is bitter en rokig, tevens heel licht zoet en droog. Verder iets van caramel.

Tap at Pigalle. Pours a deep black with a nice soapy cappuchino colored head that lingers throughout. Classic Brasserie Dupont yeast on the nose with some dark fruit, cacao and roasted malt. The taste is very roasty with slight bit of coffee and fruit and coffee as it warms. The yeast really drives the flavor along with the roasty malt. Bone dry finish with roasted malt. Very nice and very Belgian.

draught in the brewery taproom and bottle in moeder lambic fontinas
dark brown, earthy, roasty, dry, light cocoa, yeast esters a little richer than a dry irish stout but less fruitiness than some Belgian stouts.
