COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a beer already brewed in the 1950’s by Dupont Brasseries. As Dupont has extra fermentation capacity now, Olivier has the luxury of crafting some new brews, or re-creating some old specialties. There were two test versions of Monk’s Stout, both at 5.2% abv. One was dry and roasty, and another is said to be a little more rounded. Monk’s Stout is available in 33cl bottles and 20 liter kegs in Belgium.

Bottle. Typical Stout pour, frothy head, large sediment. Relatively sweet aroma: prune, chocolate, burnt malts, vanilla, mocha, some yeast funk. Taste is relatively bitter and slightly smokey. Burnt malts, coffee, vanilla, smoked ham. An exotic fruitiness comes through in the development. Neutral aftertaste. Nothing wrong with this one.

(330ml bottle from Systembolaget) Pours black with a big off white head of froth with some lace. Aroma of burnt, very ashy malt, oxidized notes, a bit of dark fruit, a little smoky, touch of chocolate. Quite Belgian. Palate is fairly light with dry, heavily roasted and ashy malt, a touch of cacao bean, liquorice, oxidization, a little dried fruit type yeast character. Very dry, ashy roasted finish, touch of milk chocolate, lightly bitter. Short aftertaste. Quite light in the body with a slightly watery feel and moderate carb. Not bad for a fairly low ABV Belgian stout. Quite drinkable if not exciting.

Svart med høyt lys brunt skum som legger seg fort. Lukter tigerbalsam, lakris og noe kakaopulver. Smaker salt lakris, noe bitter mørk sjokolade. Lett stout, med kort avslutning.

Skön anblick i glaset. Både choklad och lite rökighet i smaken. Torr finish. Fylligheten ligger under förväntad nivå.

Pours dark brown with big and fluffy beige head. Roasted, almost burnt malt on the aroma, iron, some medium roast coffee and a hint of manure. Medium- bodied palate with roasted hints. Mostly dry with medium finish. Good as a session stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Flaska från SB. Smak och doft av kaffe, choklad, rostad malt med toner av lakrits, rök och aska. Fruktig, rund och len, syrlig, lagom sötma, fin beska. Stabil!
