COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a beer already brewed in the 1950’s by Dupont Brasseries. As Dupont has extra fermentation capacity now, Olivier has the luxury of crafting some new brews, or re-creating some old specialties. There were two test versions of Monk’s Stout, both at 5.2% abv. One was dry and roasty, and another is said to be a little more rounded. Monk’s Stout is available in 33cl bottles and 20 liter kegs in Belgium.

Not a good beer. Drinkable at best. Aroma was very weak. Dirt and heavy roasted coffee which was very faint. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a 3 finger tan head that left in a minute. Taste was boring, bland and weak. The huge biting carbonation (which was great) drowned out most of the flavor and left the mouth tingling. There was faint coffee and chocolate flavors, but they were very distant. The mouth was left bitter and wet. Was a chore to finish this bottle

Small bottle from Cloud 9 in Vientiane, Laos. Pours very dark brown with a good tan head. Aroma of malt and roasted coffee. Taste of coffee, grain, malt . A little bitter to finish. A bit high on carbonation for the genre. A sound stout.

A strong aroma of roasted malt, coffee, light sour. A very huge beige creamy-foamy head with a normal duration, the body is black. A malty taste, roasted malt. The body is medium strong and creamy with a lively carbonation.

Rami Rami is drinking a Monk’s Stout by Brasserie Dupont at Konstruktorska Business Center Kawowy, lekki, pikantno-przyprawowy, lekko kwaskowaty, disc wytrawny, orzechowy nieco, ciut palony... Solidny i wyraznie belgijski.

Aroma starts nice with black malt, but later reveals some wood, grain and chalk. Brown color with a smaller lid of taupe bubbles. Acidic black malts dominate the flavors. This begs to marinade a steak or be tossed into some cooking. 9/11

Smells of coffee, caramel. Pours enormous nice beige head, thinner layer then stays. Taste is also coffee but otherwise quite watery and really a lot of CO2.

33cl bottle. Pours black with a beautiful thick creamy light beige head. Aroma is light roasted malts, some coffee, light sweetness. Taste is similar, nice roasted flavors, some burnt aroma, some coffee. Bitter finish with a light burnt aftertaste, not very elegant. Light body, too watery, a bit too carbonated.

Quite disappointed, considering on the hype to the moment I finally tried this historical one. Nice dark brown colour, not too dense, with a loose beige head. Lovely aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate and tart berries. The flavour is less fruity, more dry, bitter, but what really puts me off is the incredible watery palate. That deserves a "1".

Bottle. Pitch black with with a lasting foamy light beige head. Aroma is roasted, coffee, nuts, caramel, dark fruits. Taste is of figs, blackcurrant, nuts, hint of spice, coffee. Light oily mouthfeel, medium carbonation.

Aroma: roasted malts and caramel, ashy. Appearance: deep brown color and beige head. Taste: low bitterness, ashy, roasted caramel, clear profile, dry. Palate: low body and medium carbonation, ashy finish. Overall: It tastes like a schwarzbier, so something went wrong.
