3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared at home - erupted once opened so unfortunately 1/3 of this ended up on my bar top and in the washing up bowl. In spite of that it poured a clear golden with a fizzy, lively white head which quickly faded away. Aroma of alcohol, orange and lemon with a hint of coriander. Taste is sweet with orange and lemon again. Light body, prickly carbonation and warming.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Hazy amber appearance. Small head, which quickly disappears. Tingling effervescence on the palate. Sharp, slightly bitter taste. With a bitter grapefruit like aftertaste. This is a really good 9% beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle. Murky amber colour with small to average, frothy, rapidly diminishing, off-white head. Sweet-ish, fruity and slightly bready-grainy aroma, notes of dried fruit, apple, fig, apricot, raisin, hints of baked red appple, a peppery spicy (yeasty) touch. Taste is sweet caramel malty, slightly bready, minimally alcoholic, fruity notes of dried apple, fig, apricot; counterbalanced by a minimally tart fruit acidic touch; viscid, but in no way sticky palate. Rich, flawless, decent Triple.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
500ml Bottle from the brewery.
Pours hazy honey-colour with a very thin, bubbly, off-white head and soft to moderate carbonation. The nose is slightly sweet and predominantly malty with hints of toffee a definite boozy character, and lots of coriander. Herbal coriander flavour comes through too in the flavour as part of a well balanced bittersweet taste. The finish is long and dry to the point of being a little astringent. Loads of Belgian style malt action but as a whole it avoids being too sweet. Another real winner from Durham. 3.7

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
As a non-lover of tripels this one has to be one of the best ones I have had in a very long time. Spicy, different, warming, great.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle from Beer Hawk. Reminded me of my first homebrew attempt at a strong Belgian...boilovers with set up too small for the volume, malfunctioning smack pack, no yeast starter, fermenting bucket sat on a radiator trying to kickstart things...amazingly the beer was drinkable and in some ways tasty but under attenuated, spicy, estery and boozy. And so was this, the Venerable Bede, nice mid amber colour with ballooning head, huge spicy boozy petrol, pear drop estery flavours. Alcohol battering through like a sledgehammer. Too much, at least for my preferences.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy golden with some flecks in suspension. I recommend having a second glass handy when opening this; the yeast in mine had been quite busy and the bottle was still foaming over when I ran out of space in my glass! This smells a bit more like a witbier than a tripel. It’s a bit lighter body than a Dutch or Belgian tripel, so it’s clearly an English take on the style. Bit of fruit on the flnish along with the warmth. Not bad.

What a brew! Really nice, great marzipan flavour, really nice. But the alcohol is right there in your face, taste a lot highr than 9%... Looks gorgeous

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Mitchell’s Wines, Sheffield. Slow gusher. Hazy gold. Big, bubnly, white head. Lovely, honeyed caramel aroma. Quite floral. Bit of peachy hop. Underpinned by a soft, Belgian yeast character. Taste is toasty sweet, turning dry. Light bitterness at the end. Rich, full mouthfeel. Doesn’t feel the ABV, though. Quite warming. Finishes soft sweet, turning yeasty dry. Very nice. Super easy drinking.
