Mainly available Bottle Conditioned. Has appeared on cask occasionally.
Full bodied Maris Otter malt with a small addition of wheat and Vienna malt are aromatised by a typical Belgian charge of coriander. The result is a smooth, sweetish, luscious and fruity experience. The peach and orange notes of the malt base are enhanced by the judicious use of a single American hop, centennial. A very satisfying beer with a Belgian character.

Bottle, Beer Ritz, Leeds. Attractive rich golden amber colour with a a smallish but lingering white head. Fragrant aroma of orange, spice and grassy hop. Full bodied. Softly sweet caramel/toffee with lovely fruit and spice mingling wonderfully in the flavour. Cracking balance. Straight outta the top drawer.

courtesy of Toni Flükiger - clear reddish-amber colour with a little beige foam; aroma of caramel and quince marmelade; sweet and full-bodied, solid but subtle carbonation, late and fair bitterness, long aftertaste of quince and apricot

Cask at the GBBF 2008. Deep golden colour, low head. Lovely aroma of oak, rhum-drenched raisins and fortified wine. Warming mouthfeel. The flavour is again full of oak and raisins, also notes of bitter oranges and toffee, with a hoppy bitterness in the finish. Excellent beer.

500ml bottle from Rumbles ($13 Ow!) According to the Durham Brewery website this is a baley wine but it’s not like any other I’ve had. Fluffy white head and straw/golden in clour. Powerful fruity hops came through very well and it reminded me of extra srtong pale ale but much more subtle. Alcohol was well hidden for such a strong beer. Full mouthfeel and a clean bitter finish. Expensive but still ok value for money and a good way to get the rosy cheek look.

Bottle (in NZ, and a pricey $19!), pours with a slight haze to the bright copper colour, with a large creamy white head. A yeastie ull of flowery yeast flavours. Pricey, but worth it (though a tough drink for one, with 500ml at 9%(.

Looks beautiful, pouring a clear orange, with a thin beige hed, constantly refreshed by a rapidly rising stream of bubbles. The aroma is of oranges and alcohol, but I’m afraid it goes downhill from there. The mouthfeel is firm, and tingly, but the flavour has an orange note which reminds me of dentists toothpaste, and the alcohol is just way too hot. There are some nice flavours in the finish though. This is the first of the stronger Durham beers I haven’t loved unconditionally, and unfortunately, just happens to be the first one I decided to rate. Check out the brewery though, because these guys are awesome. A pity hardly any pubs in Durham seem to have their beers on, as we found when we were touring the UK recently.

Bottle. Hazy orange, gold with little head. Aromas are caramel and spiced oranges with woody notes and vanilla. Yeasty and spicy with alcohol. Flavours are sweet caramel malts with spicy notes and lots of warming alcohol. Grapefruit and banana fruitiness. Bitter and peppery on the finish. Reminded me of Burton Bridge Empire Ale. An old fashioned IPA and Barley Wine rolled into one.
