Mainly available Bottle Conditioned. Has appeared on cask occasionally.
Full bodied Maris Otter malt with a small addition of wheat and Vienna malt are aromatised by a typical Belgian charge of coriander. The result is a smooth, sweetish, luscious and fruity experience. The peach and orange notes of the malt base are enhanced by the judicious use of a single American hop, centennial. A very satisfying beer with a Belgian character.

Looks beautiful, pouring a clear orange, with a thin beige hed, constantly refreshed by a rapidly rising stream of bubbles. The aroma is of oranges and alcohol, but Iím afraid it goes downhill from there. The mouthfeel is firm, and tingly, but the flavour has an orange note which reminds me of dentists toothpaste, and the alcohol is just way too hot. There are some nice flavours in the finish though. This is the first of the stronger Durham beers I havenít loved unconditionally, and unfortunately, just happens to be the first one I decided to rate. Check out the brewery though, because these guys are awesome. A pity hardly any pubs in Durham seem to have their beers on, as we found when we were touring the UK recently.

Bottle. Hazy orange, gold with little head. Aromas are caramel and spiced oranges with woody notes and vanilla. Yeasty and spicy with alcohol. Flavours are sweet caramel malts with spicy notes and lots of warming alcohol. Grapefruit and banana fruitiness. Bitter and peppery on the finish. Reminded me of Burton Bridge Empire Ale. An old fashioned IPA and Barley Wine rolled into one.

Bottle conditioned at Cokney Pub, Ňrhus
It has a beautiful dark amber color, with a thin persistent head. The aroma is mild. Itís full bodied, with a quite round mouthfeel, and a good caramel and malt flavor, and the sweetness level that I like; I mean, the body really makes you want more of it. The final is balanced between the caramel, the sweetness and the bitterness, with a pleasant alcohol warmth.
Said so, itís far from being exciting. At times it has a slightly metallic aftertaste, and an impression of vegetables, so probably they can choose a different yeastÖ

Bottle at ronnies. Alround rating: Nicely hopped barley wine, floural with ciotrus notes, however slightly plasticy which iv come to expect from durhams stronger beers. Peppery pluckering in the finish with alc well hidden under the pale malts however plastic note is offputting.

Bottle at HogTownHarry Fest 08. Bit of must on the aroma, bit of a barley wine too. Some Belgina strong ale in it with the yeast.

BCA picked up at Goring-On-Thames Londis 14-01-08 and had this at home 20-01-08 Where do I start, what a great drop this was! Poured a classic amber colour with a nice white bubbly head that quickly legged it when it saw me sticking me conk in there. I agree with both Mes and Hughie very Tripel like in many ways, if this was Belgian I reckon most of it would be shipped across the pond so thank heavens itís one of ourís and probably not quite as desirable to some seeking the latest Belgian wonder. There was a soft cooked bananeyness (if there is such a word) sort of like when you stick a banana in foil and lob it on the barbie with a small slug of I donít know Brandy or summat and a bit of unrefined dark sugar atop, thatís what I got anyway. Then a lovely spicy, yeasty quality comes gushing through, the aroma was floral and honey like quite delicate considering the beer. I loved this and hatís off to Durham for another one out of the top draw.

Bottle, bought @ Cockney Pub, Aarhus. Pours a fairly clear golden orange with a bigm frothy white head. Aroma is sweet, light ginger, oranges, biscuits and grassy hops. Super soft and chewy mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet, vinious, light spicy, and a terrific amount of sweet toffee caramel. A touch of grassy and flowery hops at the end. As Mes writes, this is a great mix between a Tripel and an ESA.

A Mes rate: 50cl bottle at Pigs Ear.
Lovely golden amber colour with a thin but solid white head. Nice Belgian style spicy yeast in the aroma with some grassy hops underneath. Quite sweet but surprisingly mellow given the alcohol content. Very similar to a Belgian tripel in the flavour but itís top class. Light sweetness and citric notes really make it. Almost chewy mouthfeel. Good stuff all round. Another cracker from Durham.
