3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
My bottle shared with HogTownHarry and tupalev. Pours a hazy orange with little floaties and a large lasting white head. Sweet aroma with lots of fruit, sweet malt, yeast and a good amount of hops. Flavour’s malty and fruity with a somewhat bitter finish. Alcohol’s well hidden. Medium to full bodied. Very good, I really enjoyed it.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml bottle, bought in Scarborough. Bottle conditioned. ABV is 8.4%. Deep golden colour, huge head. Lovely aroma of hops, orange and oak. The flavour is hoppy and fairly sweet, notes of bitter oranges and spices, the alcohol is noticeable. Bitter finish and aftertaste. Must be a great accompaniment with mature cheeses. Nearly too powerful on its own.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry and Blankboy, blankboy’s bottle from England. Nice dark golden hue, small thin white head. Good dry yeast aroma with some sweet malt. Taste is that of a nice strong bitter - very earthy/Uk like. Straightforward, simple and decent.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle (500ml). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, blankboy’s bottle from England. Deep cloudy gold/amber, tiny black floaties, large lasting frothy white head. Dry aroma, peppery yeast, wheat, alcohol and a little cereal character. Taste - very nice, very smooth and balanced, soft; grainy malt, hints of apple and other fruits, herbal hops and lots of em. Soft, average body, mild carbonation, somewhat astringent, mild malt body that lasts a good long time. Well done.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
I really quite enjoyed this, moreso than most barley wines I’ve tried. I think this mostly is a testament to this beer’s balance, as I’m averse to the cloying representations of the style so prevalent in the States. Cloudy light amber with little to no head, a bit of white big-bubbled scum on the sides of the glass. Aroma is sweet caramel and lightly burnt sugars, light pit fruits and a touch of orange, loads of fresh apples, a bit of grain and honeyed sweetness. First waft reminded me of a good Belgian, interestingly. Taste, like mentioned, is balanced - nothing stands out but everything melds together quite perfectly. No real perception of alcohol. Toffee and caramel notes, with a fruity sweetness in apricots and oranges and orange rind. A pleasing lightly bitter sweetness at the back of the palate in the finish, with a mildly sweet and nicely hop-accentuated grassy aftertaste. Slightly rasping effect on the tongue. Not nearly as thick as some barley wines, which is sad, but good nonetheless, with significant carbonation. Really, really well done.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Amber colour, hazy, with huge, but brief, off-white head. Fruity nose with citrus (orange, mandarin) and heavy notes of earthy hops, slightly vinous. Fruity taste, slightly vinous, with notes of orange marmalade, mandarin and earthy hops in the finish. Sweetish, but perfectly balanced. Very nice.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The color is warm and golden, and on the dark amber side. The head is nice and the aroma has notes of fruit, roasted malt, caramel and alcohol. I get the same notes in the flavour, that also has a nice citrussy hop bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is oily. It’s a nice BW, but I’d like a bit less alcohol in the flavour.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled at Monks Café, Stockholm. Hazy reddish orange. Rich belgian-style white foam. Deep aroma of raisins, , vanilla, dades, port and pepper with unexpected hoppy notes of orange-peels and grass. Full and warming but not overly sweet flavour of dades, crackers, all-spice, raisins and alcohol. Full-bodied of course with a rather strong carbonation. Sweet and fruity finish og raisins, red apples, blue grapes, wet wood, yeast and pepper with dryish notes of orange-peels. Another great beer from Durham.

An excellent Brit Barley wine! Drunk with the company of a selection of british artisanal cheeses and a very interesting female! The beer was the best of show! The cheese second. The female... that’s for me to know... Well, the beer.. really interesting - that sweet malty marmalade stuff was brill with the unpast.cheddar. I The aroma distracted me from her.. thank god. I’m not bitter and neither was the beer! WELL DONE DURHAM! I’ll look forward to another jar of this!
