3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 28, 2014 First barley wine Iíve had in many a year. Lighter colour than I expected - dark yellow to orange. The apple taste hits first, followed by other strong fruits which for me balance off the alcohol strength very well. Very nice. Pay heed to the note on the label describing this as a lively beer - I lost the top third of the bottle to the kitchen floor!

Full bodies mid amber with fluffy beige head. Malt led, very sweet but not cloying, no sign of the booze, drinks more like a 6%er.

A little thin. Great classic aroma and flavour but thin and lacking extra character and later development.

(Cask, Rainhill Beer Fest): Orange-amber colour with a tiny white head. Aroma of caramel, sweet fruit, malt. Lots of rich sweet malt flavour with caramel and fruit notes popping up but the alcohol isnít hidden well at all and in my opinion ruins the beer, very pungent.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Medium offwhite head. Clear brown body. Sugary caramelly aroma
with spicy cocos and raisins notes. Sweet, and faintly dry,
cocos and alcohol taste with spicy grape notes. Full-bodied.
Mild, slightly hot mouthfeel. Sweet-dry caramelly toffee and
alcohol aftertaste with spicy cocos notes. Interesting and
drinkable, but could hide the alcohol better. (0.5l bottle, from
House of Trembling Madness, York.)
