COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned; has sometimes been available in the cask.
This barley wine is golden in colour with a luscious malty body. A complex blend of hops give an interesting depth and balancing bitterness. The finish lingers with a rich warmth. Something very special. Smooth deep malt blends with bright hop flavours. A hint of pear drops come from higher alcohols.

Bottle 500ml. Exceptional beer. Aromas of roasted caramel, orange, and bread. Taste is sweet, with a touch of acidity, and bitter notes. Palate is creamy, and full bodied. Brown, with a thick, frothy white head.

Aromas are subtle orange, slightly brandy-like, dare I say faint marzipan Lovely clear mid amber colour. Not very gassy so no head to speak of. Not very sticky (unlike other barley wines I’ve tried). Dry clean finish with hints of good very dry sherry, slight sweetness initially, Nice but subtle alcohol warming, caramel , dry orange and (dry) bitterness. There are aromas I can’t put a name to - it’s quite subtle (again) but complex.... Over all subtle, apart from the alcohol content!

An excellent Brit Barley wine! Drunk with the company of a selection of british artisanal cheeses and a very interesting female! The beer was the best of show! The cheese second. The female... that’s for me to know... Well, the beer.. really interesting - that sweet malty marmalade stuff was brill with the unpast.cheddar. I The aroma distracted me from her.. thank god. I’m not bitter and neither was the beer! WELL DONE DURHAM! I’ll look forward to another jar of this!

Bottle. Pours a clear, light amber with a big creamy white head. Aroma is stunning! Yeast, oranges, coriander, and a general malty sweetness. Very full mouthfeel with lots of small bubbles. Flavour is vinious, warming, sweet with oranges and a touch of liquoirice. Feels like a nice mixture between a barley wine and a Belgian ale.

Pours a deep golden. Sweet fruity aromas, slight alcohol tinge. Wow, is this really 8.4%??? This has to be the most drinkable Barley Wine I’ve had. Quite dangerous! Sweet flavours balance with some spicy bitterness. Alcohol is evident in the aftertaste but not very intense. A lot of caramel flavours in the body, and a wee bit of hop. Dry to finish. Awesome! But 500mL of this stuff is dangerous on your own...

0,5 l bottle as a gift.
Allury appearance with a hazy amber reddish-orange-coppery body, superb creamy, stable and foamy off white head. Complex aroma that opens if the beer gets warmed. Spicies in the nose like coriander, vanilla and orange peel, herbal hops. Candy sugar with some interesting yeasts, fruits like peach, grapefruit. Oily density, creamy mouthfeel, caramel brings the powerful citrussy hop flavors, spicies like cinnamon, vanilla and honey, coriander again. Orange peel, fine dried fruits and herbs with malt in the long aftertaste. Well hidden alcohol that warms me up. Fine, fine!

Pours hazy orange. Nose is subtle and complex. On the pour there is citrous, but underneath that it is dired apricot, bit of orange marmalade, possibly honey. A malty alcoholic beer. And one of the best English barley wines I’ve ever had. Very well balanced and drinkable. In fact there is more of a Belgian strong ale about this although quite grainy and malty. Finish is bitter on the tongue and alcoholic.

Pours a beautiful copper colour, with a thin white head, the nose is a full frontal attack of toffee, canned fruit and citrus peel, and a boozy note chucked in. The sweet caramel taste dominates the drinking, though there is enough of a hop bite to stop it from furring the arteries.

Bottle 07-03-06 picked up at House of Fraser Birmingham. Cask Conditioned at Dudley Winter Alse Festival Nov 19th 2005. This has been a belter on both occasions I have had it though just a tiny bit better in cask format. Warm orangey brown colour, barely much of a head, this is a sweet and very fullsome barley wine dangerously drinkable, excellent.
