COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned; has sometimes been available in the cask.
This barley wine is golden in colour with a luscious malty body. A complex blend of hops give an interesting depth and balancing bitterness. The finish lingers with a rich warmth. Something very special. Smooth deep malt blends with bright hop flavours. A hint of pear drops come from higher alcohols.

Bottle from Mr Lawrence Wine Merchants, Brockley. Cloudy orange pour with a beige head. Very citrusy aromas with a splash of pear and pineapple. Tangerine, herbs, pears in the flavour. Quite sweet. Didnít appreciate this one a much as the other Durham Brewery beers iíve sampled.

Bottle. Dark amber looks like dark apple juice. Aroma is a bit wine-like with notes of fermented fruit. First sip says Maibock. A bit dusty. Body is still. Spice starts to show up on the third or fourth sip but does not build very high; some lighnt hops, finishing pepper and hints of dark spice dot the palate and strong tangerine. Although there is some citrus emerging in the bottom half of the bottle. Short aftertaste makes you forget you are dinking it but each sip reawakens the palate. Subtle.

Bottle 50 cl, Westholme Stores, shared with Mats. Pours clear amber with a great off white head leaving a good lacing. Aroma is malty sweet madeira raisins and fruity. Flavor a bit dissapointing; weak not much BW character but yet a bit. OK bitterness even in finish.

Barwa: złocista, lekko zmętniona. Piana biała, drobno pęcherzykowa, średniej wielkości, względnie szybko opadająca, ale ładnie oblepiająca szkło. Aromat: niezbyt intensywny, głůwnie słodowy, z lekką domieszką chmielu (jakby lekkie cytrusy) i wyraźną nutą alkoholową. Jakby pale ale skrzyżowany z heller bockiem. Smak: pełny, słodowy, nieco słodki wyraźnie alkoholowy. Goryczka umiarkowana, delikatnie cytrusowa.

Bottled. (A few months past BB-date.) Clear, golden with a white head. Fruity aroma with pine, hops and some malt. Malt, pine and bitterness in the flavor. Astringent mouthfeel, and a finish with alcohol and bitterness. A bit too piney. (060928)

Dull gold colour, hazy, with big white head. Warm barley mouthfeel, can really feel alcohol coming through. but warm disappears quickly. Mild hop bitterness.

500 ml bottle. Pale golden brown body with a white head. Very nice aroma of fruit, hops and some malt. Flavor is malt and dark fruit with too much raw alcohol to be pleasant. Not in balance.

Bottle. Found that this is pretty dull so I swirled up the muck at the bottom of the bottle and dumped it in - made a difference for the better. Dull amber, duller with mud added, almost zero cap. Smells boring. A bit of alcohol, grains, sweet fruit, pepper, warm red apple, cookies, cheap white wine - very cheap, honey... interesting collection of aromas. Ok taste, easy to put back, sweet and slippery, pepper, fruity, dulling bitterness, caramel, honey, a bit more. Not even remotely memorable. Itís late, Iím tired and I have horrifying gas.

500 ml bottle. Pours a clear amber with no head. Aromas of orange peel and toffee. Light for a barley wine. Flavors of malt, alcohol, bitter hops and a bit of caramel.
