Clear medium yellow orange colour with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, of-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted - caramel, apple notes, nectar - floral. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration, fruity, malty. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20110802]

From cask. Pours cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is mild fruity and floral. Bitter, citrusy, light sweet and crisp. Bitter and light citrusy finish. Subdued sweetness.

Cask@GBBF2011. Golden colour, small head. Aroma is wood, some mild malty and earthy notes as well. Flavour is wooden, malty, slight herbal and also a bit sulphury with some nectary and citrusy notes coming in the finish.

Sweet biscuity toffee aroma. Dull smooth palate. Treated water, and soap in the aroma too. Chlorine? Minerally, but not chalky. Full of dullness. There was a bitter tingle, but it had lost me by that stage.

Cask (handpump) at Great British Beer Festival, day 4 on 5 August 2011. Unsurprisingly gold in colour. On this showing, not one of the better Durham golden ales - and it’s a style they usually do pretty well. Too much biscuity stuff, not enough bite or aroma hopping. Acceptable, but uneventful. With many similar beers at this festival nothing in this one really stood out.
