4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cask at C’est What, Toronto
Black color, with small sparse head. This is a showcase of good coffee, with a light fruity touch from the hop; lean mouthfeel, dry; long coffeish final; great balance, great fresh feeling.
(more a hoppy Stout than a Black IPA, not the same body structure)

Cask Stillage at Toronto Cask Days festival Volo, Toronto 30/10/2010
Fruit and roast aromas. Black a little rich on the palate strong in alcohol and fruity orange flavour with a hint of dryness and bitterness in a coffee roast finish.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask @Volo. Pitch black pour with a tight tan head. The aroma is lightly roasty with some earthiness and spicy hops. A little bit of resiny bitterness. Sort of lightly roasty and a bit chocolatey with a lot of soft hoppiness. It’s a decent BIPA, but it’s quite stoutish.

Enjoyed on cask at Volo Cask Days 2009. Black colour and malt but an IPA 85. I got a touch of roast flavour in here. Reminds me of Inquity, complex, drinkable. Mild flavour overall.Average mouthfeel. Served warmer than the others, probably a coincidence. A decent cask.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
2009-10-31. Red tinged black body with a small frothy tan head. 3+ Modest aroma of green leafy hops over mild dark roast malt. Flavour is similar, dark malt core, moderate dry roast and a good amount of leafy hop overtones. Less bitter than I expected (both the hops and roast are only modestly bitter). The hops start to take over more as the glass goes on. 7+ Average palate is pleasant and lightly carbonated. I can not decide if I want it to be a touch more full bodied or if it is perfect as it is. Very interesting brew, I look forward to ruminating over a larger sample if this comes round again. Enjoyable. Cask at Volo Cask Days 2009

Appearance : dark brown, opaque mid body with hazed copper on edges. Rich mid plus top is shown. Off creamy texture.
Nose: soft nose , bubble gum , floral hops , hint of caramel. 7-.
Flavor/Palate : smooth , creamy mid full bodied with thinner end. Sugary with roasted malt with solid dose of hops paired together. Hop character increasingly prominent. Interesting brew. 13+/20

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask. At Volo Cask Days 2009. Clear deep ruby-black with a large lasting off-white head. Aroma of burnt caramel and tons of dry herbal bitterness - simple, solid. Taste - hugely dry and bitter, with some dry cocoa roastiness - very hoppy, very good! Sticky and slightly chewy mouthfeel, with a long, extremely dry finish. Like a hopped-up and dry-hopped schwarzbier - really, really good.

Cask at ’Volo Cask Days 2009’. Pours a very deep ruby, almost black, with a small bubbly tan head. Aroma of roasted dark malt, herbal hops and a hint of smoke. Flavour of lightly roasted dark malt, light herbal hops, some coffee and a light, dry bitter finish. Average bodied. Pretty good.
