[330-20070607] Tap @ Smokeless Joe’s (Toronto, ON). Deep dark roasted malty chocolate aroma with some background of nut. Black body with a long-lasting creamy light tan head, thick lacing. Same malty roast base with notes of chocolate and nut and a light floral background. Smooth full body. Impressively creamy and tasty, really enjoyable.

I tried this beer on January 28, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe’s" in Toronto. The beer was dark brown/black in the glass with a thin, creamy light brown head. The aroma was roasted malt. chocolate, and raisin. The mouthfeel was full-bodied, creamy, with medium carbonation. The flavour was roasted malt, a little coffee, and a little licorice.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 blankboy (4451) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 13, 2005
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2006 Draught at Smokeless Joe. Pours a beautiful black with a huge creamy light brown head. Head is long lasting. You can’t get a better looking beer than this. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, roasted malt and more. Smells great. Flavour follows the aroma: coffe, chocolate, vanilla, spices and a pleasantly surprising amount of hops. Really creamy and somewhat bitter. The low ratings for this beer really surprise me as I think it’s an outstanding beer and one my faves.

On tap at Volo in Toronto.
Pitch black and lovely. Malty, creamy dry stout with dark fruits, wine, coffee. A dry, burnt finish. Well-done.

Cask Days 2007. Hands down the best Ontario cask of the day. Very dark ruby, creamy tan head. Nose is toffee, nearly burnt malt, quite sweet with a little fruit and alcohol. Flavor is bitter toffee, burnt port. Bitter cocoa finish.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Slacks (615) - Bolton, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 18, 2008
Cask @ Volo Cask Days 2007: Poured pitch black, beige head that clung to my glass in pleasing fashion. Aroma was sweet, like lightly burnt toffee, with espresso and chocolate. All these flavours came through on my first sip, a well balanced blend of burnt sugar, coffee, chocolate, and very light hopping. I always seem to enjoy this brewery, I should seek it out more often.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 DerWeg (1271) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 4, 2009
UPDATED: OCT 29, 2009 Pint at the Victory Café. Foamy white pour (!) exudes cocoa, coffee, hops... ends a bit of roast. Smooth and almost oily. Some mineral and fruit - very honest effort!! *** some dark berry fruit also.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2006 Draught At Smokeless Joe. I have also had it on cask and prefer the non-cask as the cask tends to bring out a sourness in the flavour. Pours very black with a creamy, rich off-white head which stays around, aroma of chocolate, vanilla - very sweet to the smell and taste. Very more-ish. Warning - the brewmaster plays with the recipe constantly, rarely the same twice. But when it’s thick and fullest bodied, perfect for having 4 pints and getting toasted - rather like the finish (sweet and toasty).

a mocha creamy head. Very creamy fresh roasty stouty aroma.Initial mocha expresso sweetness. Light hops, light fruit, bit o’nuts. Some smoke mid-sip. Bitter and dry aftertaste.

UPDATED: APR 11, 2008 Surprisingly hoppy for a stout. Smooth and syrupy. Toasty malt and coffee presence is very apparent. I like!
