garthicus (515), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 2, 2008 Tap: Smokeless Joes. Looks almost like a settling pint of Kilkenny when presented. Amber brown, milky, settles with a decent sized head. Some malt and candy in the aroma. Flavour: Some spice, some malt, a little sweetness too with a short dry finish. Not too bad.
Sledge Jr (2692), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Jun 15, 2008 On tap at Smokeless Joe’s in Toronto. Pours a reddish brown color with a thin white head. This seems far too bitter for the style that I was expecting. Visually, it has great lacing, but just a bit on the light and boting side in terms of body and flavor other than the strong bitterness. VeloVampire (365), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 20, 2007 Updated: Jun 21, 2007On tap at Smokeless Joe - came a deep almost opaque brown/copper colour with nice two-finger nitro head. Very nice dark fruit aroma, with some malt sweetness and woody hops. Flavor very malty with a bitter finish, and a very smooth and creeeeeamy mouthfeel (probably owing to the nitro-pour). Would love to try this one on cask. JoeMcPhee (3614), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 11, 2007 Tap at Smokeless Joe. Nitro head, deep amber beer, thick creamy off-white head. Authentic fruity nose with lots of cherry/berry over light earthy hops. Herbal with a hint of spice as well. Flavour is a bit thin but shows a nice crisp sulfury component that accentuated the minerally bitterness on the back. It’s not bad, but the body and the flavour could be bumped up a bit. crushinat0r (225), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 28, 2007 Sweet and sour.. and.. soapy? Had this on cask at Volo during the latest ESB sampling along side with the Mill Street and Fullers ESBs. I have to say I wasn’t a fan. This was barely drinkable in my opinion. Looks like a beer, tastes kinda like beer, but is missing a lot of the balance and complexity the other ESB varieties I tried that day. Granted this was Cask, and the conditions weren’t ideal, but I’d pass on this one.
