3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 cyrenaica (799) - Milton, - APR 23, 2009
20oz draught
5.0% ABV
I tried this beer on June 23, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe’s" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a translucent reddish brown with a creamy tan coloured head which lasted. The aroma was a little bit of grainy maly with some floral hops. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, and lightly carbonated. The flavour is mildly hoppy with a nice bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Sample on cask. Pours deep reddish/amber. Aroma is grainy malt, slightest touch of caramel, light hop balance. Perfectly pleasant but without richness ESB’s can have.

Overall it was a nice beer, but it lacked in malt and was a tad too watery for my liking. Had it at the Victory Cafe in Toronto on tap.

Cask at Ritz Deli North. Many times. I’m surprised I haven’t rated this one before now. Amber brown with little head. Fresh aroma of bread, floral hops and fruit (peach, maybe). Nice maltiness in the flavour, bringing sweetish caramel, bread, and a slight nuttiness into the mix. And that peach flavour is in there as well. The hops add a subtle herbal touch and a not-so-subtle bitter finish. Body is medium and smooth. A well-put-together session brew.

[2552-20091028] Cask. Grainy dough aroma. Clear, dark orange amber body with a quick bubbly head. Grainy dough yeast flavour is a little boozy with some apple notes. Medium body. A little bland, not bad.

I tried this on Cask. At first not very appealing, kind of worty and plain, with little shape or character. Later the sweetness of the grain comes through a bit. Was just OK.
