Evensong is a rich ruby coloured 20C English bitter. Based on an original recipe from 1937 this beer captures the flavour of its time. Goldings and Fuggles hops combine with darker malts to give a traditional English character.

50cl bottle, batch 2279, BB 07/2013.

Bottle. Deep dark ruby with thin tan head. Nose is berries - blackberries. Hint of toffee. In the mouth there's powdered chocolate, more blackberry, grape. Mouth feels just right for this brew and the finish is sweet with a hint of bitter. Rather nice.

Bottle, shared by Parksy. Medium old penny copper colour, brief almond head. Aroma is pretty weak reall-- some breadcrust and caramel, not much alse. Palate is dark caramel with light fruity accents, finish is brief and bitter with a faint metallic note. Just okay for me.

tombyars (1592) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - DEC 6, 2011
Tasted this in the Three Judges, Glasgow in October 2005. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear ruby in colour with a thin creamy buff head. Fruity malt aromas sharp on the nose. Silky smooth mouthfeel and good lacing. Mixed malts give a fiery digestive biscuit base with strong overtones of redcurrants and pink grapefruit. Strong spicy hop prickle gives a slightly dry almost woody aftertaste. Finish is sweet, malty and smooth with juicy red winegum notes present. An excellent session ruby ale and it really reminded me of Caledonian 125 for those who can remember that far back. Well recommended.
