3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jerc (5591) - Toronto, - MAY 10, 2006
UPDATED: MAR 6, 2007 Tasted Blind, March 2007. Volo IPA Challenge Sample #5
Orangey copper amber, fast fading head. Moderate orange and tangerine citrus notes in the hoppy aroma. Pleasant orange bitterness is fairly well balanced with malt and resin notes. (7+). Slightly more full than average palate. (3+) Not the highest scoring on my official score sheet, but possibly the one I would be most likely to have more of on this day. 7-8/3/7+/3+/16 - 3.8

Volo Cask Situation, Cask #6 Hazy golden amber body. Interesting orangey funky aroma is oddly fruity – apricot? Astringent lemon rind aroma is not unpleasant but kind of strange. Bitter almost astringent ambiguous citrus is a bit rough and discordant at first – like non-optimally aged citrus fruit. Average palate is just a bit too flat. Tried this again the next day and found it to be much more palatable. Orange citrus comes out much more fully in both the aroma and flavour, and better rounded out in all areas. 5-6/3/5/3/10-12

May 2006 Draft. Orange dark amber body with a small off white head. Sweet orange citrus aroma with light malt underneath. Big hoppy flavour is briefly mildly citrusy but quickly gives wat to lightly astringent very resiny green hops. Average palate is a touch light but adds to its drinkability on the patio at Volo. Decent, but more citrus or malt to complement the not so delicate hops would boost it higher. 6/3/7/3/15 - 3.4
3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 WheatKing (182) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 25, 2012
The best thing to come from Pickering since Mr Burns. After Flying Monkeys, I think this is the best IPA to be found in Ontario. The flavour packs a lot more punch than the aroma.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Fred82 (1824) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 9, 2011
On tap at C’est What.
Appearance : Clear amber with small head.
Aroma : Piny and citrusy hops. Some malt.
Taste : Piny and citrusy with light buttery notes. Finish is quite bitter and a bit astringent. Light caramel too.
Overall : Nice hops but the light buttery notes bugged me quite a bit. It’s probably a problem with this keg only so I won’t be too hard.

Bottle in Toronto. Good clean, crisp beer with fresh hops and a good malt balance as well.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 rosenbergh (3490) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JUL 20, 2011
Draught at Beerbistro, Toronto, ON.
Clear amber colour with small white head.
Dark fruity hoppiness in aroma.
Grainy malty flavour with bitter fruity hops.
It’s not that bitter after all. Best in this brew is the tap handle.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 beer4bears (75) - Ontario, CANADA - JUN 22, 2011
On tap at Bierbistro. Second try at this one because I thought I must have had a bad one my first time. No better the second time so I don’t understand the high ratings. Dark amber with a thin head. Some citrus, but overall lacks aroma. Thin in the mouth. Sub-par carbonation. Just not as good as other IPA’s out there.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 scantron (45) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 29, 2011
April 24, 2011; Draught in pint glass at Volo
Sort of missed out on the aroma. When it got to me, there was still plenty of lychee and grapefruit in the nose. A toffee-copper coloured ale with no head and very light lace. Citrus and lychee from hops with a mild malt. There’s a little something else in the hops which I can’t identify. A well blended brew. Refreshing hops but the resin bitterness is a little too strong in the aftertaste for me.
