UPDATED: MAY 17, 2008 341ml bottle from the beer store. I was really pleased to see the date of packaging was only a month ago, which for my beer store (Bleams Rd. Kitchener) is practically fresh from the brewery (on some other boxes there’s still some best before dates of 2007). Pours a nice golden amber colour with a rich, off white head (great lace as you drink), and moderate effervescence. Aroma is of nice toffee malts, a little grainy, and defined by decent hop character. Flavour is more of the same with a bit more going on, great refeshing malts accompanied by just the right amount of hop presence. Nice, slightly slick mouth-feel, surprising for something as light and drinkable as this. This is a great summer session brew if you’re looking for something other than a good pilsener. I really wish more beers from this brewery were available in my area!

light copper hue with beige head, it has mild aroma of grapefruit. this brew has a nice profile that is well balanced by hoppings, very true to the style of english pale ale.

nice beer. aroma is very much citrus, and pine. i wouldn’t consider this an english pale ale. more and an IPA. its quite a bit more bold than an english style pale ale. the hops are more up front. overall a nice beer.

Bottle sampled in mid-June ’06, courtesy of Sammy: Pours a clear orange bronze with a thin ring of wispy white head. Soft toasty sweet caramel malty aroma has some nutty character and earthy English hops. Body starts with a light caramel malty sweetness and a drier, more bitter earthy and mildly warming finish. Could use a touch more malt and fresher hops, but still an ok beer.

Bottle probably thanks to Sammy: Orange copper color with a white head. Aroma of citrus and caramel. Flavor similar to the aroma with some grassy notes as well.

Pale and smells like oranges/grapefruits, taste like medicine with a bite and carbonation; bitter finish.

341ml bottle - pours with pretty much no head at all. Very lightly carbonated; put a bottle of this in a paint mixer and it probably wouldn’t explode on you. That’s good news if you decide to put it in a paint mixer. I could have probably done with a touch more carbonation, but whatever, it’s good. Aroma is sweet and malty, a bit piney and sharp, almost grassy even. The taste is really nice. Nicely balanced, assertive and bright, a little bit woody. I like it.

UPDATED: OCT 24, 2008 341 ml bottle - pours coppery orange with a nice fluffy head that was lasts throughout the glass and leaves sticky lace. Interesting nose - pine, light malts, yeast, some citrus, and hops to balance. Taste is quite beautiful - sticky, resiny hops, but not overblown - sort of soft and muted, but definitely there; an expert melding with the malt and yeast - more than the sum of its parts, which is exactly what a beer should be - everything is well-balanced. Minimal carbonation is true to the style, makes it seem almost like cask. Very pleasant soft woody undertone leading to an earthy finish. Very nice. Bolder than most EPAs I’ve tried, but lighter than a typical IPA. A really good beer.

Draught @ Hostex: Pours dark amber - almost red - with very, rapidly dying, head. Aroma is caramel, malt, and hops in that order. Flavour astounds; an unexpectedly tasty and earthy ale with good hopping and a terrific front palate delicate sweetness. It all comes together in great fashion, perhaps benefiting from lowered expectations from the "good" aroma.
