UPDATED: AUG 24, 2005 Draught (cask) at Volo. Slightly cloudy deep gold, average creamy white head, average lacing. Lots going on to my nose - oak, soap, dry malt, weak hops, dry straw. Surprise is in the flavour - incredibly smooth, complex and venerable - various wood/forest notes, musty/mushroomy, and an overall balance between medium bitterness and malt. Light to medium bodied, soft on the mouth, oaky and slightly bitter to finish.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2005 A really nice surpirse. Dark/golden ale with a sweet, floral and malt aroma. Really mouthwatering. The taste doesn’t disappoint. A few citrus notes mixed in with a nice dose of hops. Great aftertaste - some bitterness and very refreshing. Already stocked up - that’s how much I ike this ale. This ale is going to be a standard choice of mine.

UPDATED: MAY 11, 2008 Good example of the style! Dark amber dody with a beige head that is about one inch thick. Aromas are heavy malts, nuts, and brown sugar. Also some hops present. Taste is sweet maltiness, mild roasted notes, candy, and hops bitterness. Nice! Bittersweet finish, nice bite in the mouth all the way down. A decent brew!

Pours a clear amber colour with a medium but rapidly diminishing head. Nice aroma of caramel malt and floral hops. Cramel malt also in taste with some sweetness up front and a decent bitterness to finish.

Brilliant amber in colour. Aroma was of sweet maly, fruity hops, some caramel. Flavour had a nice caramel sweetness, mild hops, medium body, mild carbonation. Finishes smooth with a mild bitterness. Nice beer.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2005 Fresh hoppy moments fight through a predominantly malty and fruity aroma. Nice light orangey-amber colour with a rapidly diminishing white froth. Quite dry and has more sweetness in the finish than bitterness, when it seems like you want it the other way around. Not to bad, especially for around here. Thanks Jeff.

An almost perfect amber color. The aroma is a tantalizing combination of tropical fruit (apricots) and sweet, juicy malt. Flavor is strongly suggested by the aroma but the finish and expression of the beer is understated. A touch of bitterness comes into play to attempt to finish the beer then drops before completing its mission. The malt has an overly dry, husky character mixed with too much residual sweetness. Overall, the flavor disappointed me based upon how wonderful the aroma and appearance was.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2004 Bottled: Pour reveals a golden hued ale with an almost non existant head that goes to a sticky ring....very moderate carbonation( which is welcome in milder subtle beers). Aromas some grassy hops over sweet fruity notes. Starts mellow and smooth where the draft like mouthfeel has the balance weighted to spicy hops then a long finish where the wet citrus gives way to an increasing bready malt taste which leaves a light biscuity after taste. A very mild and mellow draft style ale. I would recommend to any cask ale fancier.

Sample taken from 341ml brown bottle. Pours dark gold, surprisingly weak head. It as gone 3/4 way through the pint. Awesome aroma of oranges/citrusy hops and honey. Malty body and ends with more hops.
