Illuminatus (87), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jun 16, 2008 341mL bottle from the Beer Store. Six-pack packaged on April 4th, 2008. Pours orange amber with a fluffy, cream-coloured head. Aroma is of sweet malt and a touch of floral hop. Flavour is of toffee-like caramel malts, a mild, grassy bitterness from the hops, and a full, moderately carbonated mouthfeel. Very tasty and refreshing.
mabel (1583), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 13, 2008 [1532-20080713] Cask. Soapy floralness and smooth grainy hops aroma. Murky, medium orange body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Fruity hops flavour has lemon and soapy floral sweetness. Medium body is smooth. Interesting floral fruit.
(@ Victory Cafe; Toronto, ON; w/ jerc) DerWeg (398), Tronna, Ontario, Canada Jul 12, 2008 dated "30 June" sixer from LCBO. Amber pour light tan head. Excellent very fresh-tasting Pale. Hops are defined and somewhat delicate yet have a decent bitter and citrusy kick. Enough malt body to not be too thin and dry, just enough to make the hops seem ’juicy, multi-dimensional and almost orange-peel citrusy. Malt character is just a hint toffee and cereal. I will buy this brewer’s beers more often for the entirely whole-hop process he employs, to good effect as in this example which seems more ’open’ and layered than 90% of Craft Beers made here. Maltybones (49), Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Jul 12, 2008 A gem in Ontario brewing. Appearance is a light amber body with white froth on top. Crystal clear with low-to-medium carbonation. Citrus, a little pine and a good amount of sweetness are all well balanced in the aroma. Flavour has sweet, sweet malts, grapefuit and grains all mixing together, finishing with a great hop kick. Slick mouthfeel perfect for style. Much more of a Wesrt Coast Pale Ale than an English Pale Ale. Super. JesseM (361), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada May 10, 2008 Updated: May 17, 2008341ml bottle from the beer store. I was really pleased to see the date of packaging was only a month ago, which for my beer store (Bleams Rd. Kitchener) is practically fresh from the brewery (on some other boxes there’s still some best before dates of 2007). Pours a nice golden amber colour with a rich, off white head (great lace as you drink), and moderate effervescence. Aroma is of nice toffee malts, a little grainy, and defined by decent hop character. Flavour is more of the same with a bit more going on, great refeshing malts accompanied by just the right amount of hop presence. Nice, slightly slick mouth-feel, surprising for something as light and drinkable as this. This is a great summer session brew if you’re looking for something other than a good pilsener. I really wish more beers from this brewery were available in my area!
