Bottle Conditioned. Also available occasionally in the cask as Magnificat.
Our interpretation of an India Pale Ale. Not too bitter with extra aroma hops for interest.
Ingredients: Maris Otter and Crystal malts; Challenger, Target, Columbus, Golding and Saaz hops.

Bottle from Drink of Fulham. Cloudy orange pour with a white head that doesn’t stick around for long. Floral nose with hints of caramel, citrus and light hops. Flavours of orange marmalade, pineapple, caramel, banana, cloves. Quite fruity. Sharp hop burst in the finish.

500ml bottle pours a golden orangeish color with a small white head and thin lacing. Aroma is earthy and citrusy. Taste is earthy and citrus hoppy bitterness with some malty sweetness coming through as well. Medium body and light carbonation. An enticing enough IPA, but nothing really stands out on this one.

Appearance: golden, clear (looks like a lager) with a thick white long-lasting head. Awesome lacing. Aroma: very weak hop aroma, but you wouldn’t tell this was brewed using hops as Challenger or Columbus. Aroma is more malty than hoppy. Again - more like a (bad) lager. I think I also smell something like rusty nails in the back... Taste: it’s bitter and malty. Again - it’s hard to taste the hops and the citrus they should give to the taste. Bitterness is herbal and dry, kinda like from a very strong green tea. Some earthy notes in the back. Mouthfeel: high carbonation, medium bodied. Overall: Not what I expected. Reading the label I was hoping for an excellent or very good IPA at least. But I wouldn’t call this beer an IPA at all, rather a Strong Bitter or something like that. But previous reviews made me think - maybe I just got a bad batch? Who knows. Beer was fresh, BB 08-2015.

UPDATED: OCT 5, 2011 March, 2002 Bottle conditioned. Muddy orange. Citric fruit aroma. Pleasant tingle, though I prefer a softer feel. Muddled yeast and citric fruit flavours, finishing with a bold citric hop bite. Some honey notes. Decent beer. [3.0]
June, 2003 Bottle Conditioned, with Duff & Nuffield. Creamy mouthfeel - smooth. Sweet malt predominant - finish is dry and citric. Not great. [2.9] This was Durham’s first bottled beer and was originally called Millennium City because Durham was 1,000 years old in the year 2000. [3.1]
Oct, 2011 500ml bottle from Edinburgh Woollen Mill shop in Durham. Bottle conditioned. A strong pale ale with a range of hop notes - citric and earthy. Toffee notes in the malt. A pleasant strong ale. Hoppier than average for English ales, but not as hoppy as American. [3.3]
