Its a shame that the brewery couldn’t use these American hops in an American style. Powerful hops relegated to an afterthought in its taste profile. Watery, light funk aroma and a bit bitter. Could have been so much more.

Cask at the White Horse, 12th July 2008 with renffisch. Yellow with a small head. Sports a predominantly citrus aroma with a leathery hint. In the mouth it is your typical citrus refreshing golden ale with a sharp finish. OK, but not a style I love.

Cask (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Real Ale Festival 2006)
Aroma is hoppy bitterness, maybe a bit citrusy. Perhaps a bit watery in the mouth, yes there’s a bunch of hops, but not very interesting.

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2012 Cask at The Flowerpot, Derby, 08-09-07 Poured light golden with a light, fresh, zesty aroma. A zippy, pithy, fresh beer that was slightly dry in the taste. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov15 3.7 Had this again on Cask, handpump at the Cask & Kitchen, Pimlico, London 07.01.12 in company of Loz, Lynn, Barry, Nick & Anna Pours light gold with a white head. I found this a little thin and not really what I would expect from Durham, thugh to be fair having been drinking at Kernel and Brewdog today maybe this was being a little unfairly judged along such hoppy beasts? However I found that this really lacked a distinct hoppiness and bitternes, it was fresh and the finish was dry but the midle was rather plodding and therefore I had to re-rate and alter my opinion of this. (Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 31 July) Colour is golden yellow with green tinges, small head. Nose is fruity with lemon and grassy hops, a bit closed. Taste is fruity and hoppy with notes of lemon, but mainly with a long bitter finish with a nice grassy hop character and nutty notes. Light to medium body and rather dry. Very nice finish. Grows on you.
