White Stout is the ultimate beer in our "White Range". While the word "stout" has come to mean a dark beer, the original meaning was strong and true. Before the porter brewers commandeered the word to mean a stout, or strong, porter it referred to any strong beer. We have rehabilitated and improved the genre. White Stout is a very pale, full bodied, strong beer. American columbus hops are used throughout to give massive floral and resinous character. At a strength of 7.2% this is a true stout. Indeed, few modern stouts of any colour are true to the word for strong.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2016 Not sure what to think of this. Obviously this is not a Stout to any modern definition. I would compare this to a double IPA. Aromas hoppy and citrus as expected. This tastes every bit of its 7.2 ABV and a thin body is supplemented by a meths like alcoholic taste. The meths lingers along with a rather unpleasant icing sugar bite. Pretty unpleasant experience- sorry Alex! x

500ml Bottle from the brewery. Pours a very cloudy mid-amber with a quickly diminishing white head. It settles after an initial gassy liveliness to look more like scrumpy cider than most beers. The nose is sweet and pleasant, with mango and lychees while bitterness rules the taste on both its early palate and a long finish. The flavour has light floral, soapy hop notes as well as honey and apple sweetness. Weakened by the fact it tastes every bit of its 7.2% ABV. Another complex beer from Durham, though nothing like as good as the Smoking Blonde for me, but thatís not to say there isnít a fair bit to like about it. Iíd recommend drinking a full bottle as I enjoyed it more the further it went down as my palate became immersed in its flavours.

Cask at GBBF 2015. It pours a clear gold with a fine white head of foam. The nose is cocoa & coffee with a mild stout flavor. Alright.

Bottle. Golden amber with an inch of white head. Aroma of honey, dough, pine, vague citrus, spices. Creamy getting towards syrupy, lovely lowish carbonation. Sweet honeyed dough, strong pine and herbal notes, some lemon. Bitter and pithy at the end with an overtly boozy note thatís a little excessive.

500ml bottle. Clear golden colour with average to huge, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Floral and fruity, hoppy aroma, notes of gooseberry, pear, strawberry, a spicy touch of celery. Taste is minimally sweet pale malty, fruity hoppy overtones, mild bitterness, a floral touch; strong, full body. OK.

Bottle from Beer Hawk. I quite like this style of beer so Iím probably biased. There are some fairly idiotic review comments here, or maybe the brewery expected the beer geeks to be a bit geekier than they actually are! Rich, slightly (quite!) boozy, nice pale ale malt character, then quite a big hop bitterness. Definite C hop character, maybe a tad incongruous? Or maybe more refreshing? I quite enjoyed this!
