COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
White Stout is the ultimate beer in our "White Range". While the word "stout" has come to mean a dark beer, the original meaning was strong and true. Before the porter brewers commandeered the word to mean a stout, or strong, porter it referred to any strong beer. We have rehabilitated and improved the genre. White Stout is a very pale, full bodied, strong beer. American columbus hops are used throughout to give massive floral and resinous character. At a strength of 7.2% this is a true stout. Indeed, few modern stouts of any colour are true to the word for strong.

500ml bottle pours golden in color with a 2 and a half finger white head that retains well and eventually leaves some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is flowery and earthy with some cereal grains. Taste is an earthy hop bitterness with a grainy malty sweetness. Light to medium bodied with a generous amount of carbonation leaving a nice sensation on the palate. A nicely balanced and tasty English strong ale that is recommended to try, but is certainly not a stout in the current world of beers.

(Bottle, 0.5 l, at Pikkulintu, 20120929) The beer poured golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had hops, malts and cowhouse. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, hops, sweetness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. The aroma was quite confusing at the beginning but the cowhouse smell disappeared quite quickly. The taste was surprisingly dry and hoppy. Not bad.

Bottle 500ml. @ chriso s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2012.

Clear light to medium yellow colour with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, floral, dry grass. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, fruity, malty, hoppy, roasted - chocolate malt (the beer is pale) !! Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Bottle. Light orange, hazy. Nose is like a amarillo/cascade apa: peach, citrus, resins, floral tones. Body is bitter and a bit thinnish, dry. Harsh. Some caramel, yeast residue, staleness. I presume this is a flovery apa-style ipa. A bit hard, not in balance.

It is easy to brew a strong beer by adding sugar to the copper. I do not understand the White Stout description of this beer. The taste is grapefruit with prickly carbonation on the roof of the mouth. I much prefer Durham Magus which at 3.8% abv is a superior beer.

Bottle at Chris O’s pre-GBBF shindig 2012. Yellow pour with a white head. Citrus and pear aroma. Sweet spice and citrus flavour. Fruity finish.

Bottle @ Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig. The pour’s light gold with a small off-white head. The nose is light peas, some coffee, some chocolate sweetness. The taste is light chocolate, more vegetable notes, some grassy hops. Chocolate. Medium body, soft carbonation. Overall, there’s something very strange and incongruous about this beer. This just doesn’t mesh.
