COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
White Stout is the ultimate beer in our "White Range". While the word "stout" has come to mean a dark beer, the original meaning was strong and true. Before the porter brewers commandeered the word to mean a stout, or strong, porter it referred to any strong beer. We have rehabilitated and improved the genre. White Stout is a very pale, full bodied, strong beer. American columbus hops are used throughout to give massive floral and resinous character. At a strength of 7.2% this is a true stout. Indeed, few modern stouts of any colour are true to the word for strong.

Bottle, courtesy of Cuso, many thanks. Pours hazy golden color, white head. Aroma is hoppy, floral hops, fruity, grapefruit, hints of honey. Taste is bitter, grapefruit, orange peel. Long bitter finish.

(bottle) Hazy, golden colour with a big and blond foamy head. Yeast-spicy and herbal, slightly grassy hoppy aroma with delicately fruity spots, hints of iodine and a strawy malty touch. Bitter flavour, medium to full bodied with a modest carbonation. Delicately bready malty base with drying herbal hops from the beginning, lingering into the bitter and discreetly sweet malty finish with a dangerously muted alcoholic strength. Nice try as a hoppy & pale strong Ale, but the term “Stout” is a bit irritating. 26.IX.13

Fra flaske på Cardnaltreff sep-13: mye såpeskum her! Gylden strågul. Lite humlearoma, men snev av alkohol. Bitterheten balanserer alkoholsødmen og -styrken, men denne ølen mangler egensmak. Nondescript ville kanskje en engelskmann sagt. "Massive floral and resinous caracter" iflg bryggeriets egenmelding. Tørr ettersmak. Kanskje verdt et nytt forsøk.

Shared bottle at Cardinal. Pours clear light golden with a huge foamy white head. Sweet malty aroma. Taste of dried fruits, lots of spicy alcohols, rather unpleasant.

Pours golden with a moderate white head. Kind of strange beer, a combination between ipa-ale-lager. Nice fruity aroma, light to moderate. Acidic mouthfeel as from lager. Interesting beer.

500 ml bottle conditioned, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.2%. Golden colour, slightly hazy, large white head. Pleasant aroma of fruity hops on a sweetish malty background. Medium sweet flavour, distinctly malty, but also with strong hoppy notes and a resinous and bitter finish. The alcohol is evident, and I’d easily believe that the beer was even stronger than it actually is. American Columbus hops are hardly part of a trustworthy "re-creation of the White Stout style", but never mind the name - this is a decent and quite enjoyable strong ale, more American than English in its character.

500ml bottle. Pours a hazy medium gold, with a large off-white head, which lasts very well and leaves good lacing. Floral and spice hops mix with a dry herbal aroma, sourdough bread and biscuit malt notes on the nose. Spicy hops come in up front, with a touch of mango present also. Toffee and biscuit malt notes and mild candied fruit in the mid-palate lead into a spicy finish. There is a slight dry sherry aftertaste. This is a lot drier than most English strong ales, and whilst it could stand to be a touch less carbonated, that makes it quite an unusual and also quite a pleasant drink.

Slightly hazy Amber, huge self-supporting head. Slightly sticky malty aroma, plenty of grassy and piney hops. I don’t like the name, and the aroma is not so promising, but taste wise this is very nice. A very nice twist on normal strong ale. Full body, but only in an English way. Pleasant carbonation too, doesn’t feel heavy or strong. Herbal bitterness in great balance with the sweetish medium to lightly roasted malts, quite bready even. Whoops, that’s a pint gone.

Big white head. Slightly hazy coppery body. Sugary floral aroma with herbal notes, fairly faint. Dry-sweet peppery dried fruit taste with licorice and spice notes. Mid-bodied. Fizzy, sharpish mouthfeel. Dry fruity spicy peppery aftertaste with oily coriander notes. White stout? More like a Belgian trippel. (0.5l bottle, from House of Trembling Madness, York.)

Agree with the reviewer that said this is more like a British strong ale than a stout.
