3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 GregClow (2645) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 16, 2008
Cask at Volo. Hazy yellow with a tight white head. Mild aroma, yeasty and a bit spicy. Soft body. Mellow citrus & spice flavours, a bit of lemon. Not sure if I agree with the choice of releasing this as a cask ale - I think witbiers need a bit more carbonation to really work. But it’s promising, and I’ll have to try it on draught when I have a chance.

On tap at Victory Cafe - came about as clear as a wit could be (which is to say not transparent, but certainly not as cloudy as most wits I’ve had) with a foamy white two-finger head. Aroma nice but not really witty - reminded me of a soft summer ale, with some signature Durham notes. Flavour similar - very pleasant, but not really on style. Overall, the whole package reminded me of a good-quality unfiltered blonde ale, with some very faint wit touches - soft spiciness and mild citrus. A good beer from Durham - and certainly something I would get again, especially as the weather warms - but, as I said before, not especially on style.

Opaque, yellowish appearance. The aroma is orangey, slightly footy. Quite fruity on the palate, with a fairly full body, light orange and a hint of spice. Finishes wheaty and a slight bit sticky.

On tap at C’est What. Cloudy yellow with moderate white head. Lacey. Some yeast puffs up the mouthfeel. A bit sour yet quite drinkable.

Cask. At Volo. Cloudy/murky yellow-gold pour with a solid lasting white head. Dry aroma, sweet and yeasty, but not much fruit character - mostly stale butterscotch. The taste, much better, more like a wit - mild sweet caramel malt, bitter spice mostly on-style, and yes, that "Durham" yeast taste. Soft, chewy body, with a quick finish - just decent, not all that memorable.

Cask, on tap at Volo. Hazy yellow pour, lacy head. Very citrus smell. Easy drinking. Slight orange flavour. Kind of plain, had better wits, though still nice on a spring day.

On tap @ C´est What Fall Fest.
Mild aroma of wheat, some spice, cloudy yellow, small white head. Taste is spicy lemon, light wheat, yeast, reminds me of meringue on lemon meringue pie. Light bodied, unfinished, as far as I´m concerned. Not quite to style.
