3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A big, thick tar-like russian imperial. too much for one in our party, even though 11-13% seems to be the norm and this was "only" 9.4. Chocolate, licorice, tar, adequate bitterness all in one big package. In smallish amounts, I really dug it.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours two and half fingers of tan head on a black body. It looks amazing.
The aroma is molasses, brown sugar and a touch of burnt malt.
The taste is heavy on the burnt malt, some roasted malt, wood and molasses. Great profile and balance.
The texture is heavier with moderate carbonation.
It nails the style and tastes great.

Bottle from Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours near black with a thick tan head and a treacle aroma. There is a hearty dark molasses and burnt chocolate flavor with a hint of coffee and a dry finish. Very tasty.

Poured from the bomber I found at nugget west sac. The aroma is nice and chocolatey. Flavour is also chocolate, some roast but I feel like the hop bitterness it coming through nicely. This is really a nice imperial stout for this cool evening.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22 ounce bottle purchased at Nugget in Woodland, CA. The aroma has some light cocoa sweetness initially, before some anise comes through. Pretty strong with roasted anise aromas. The appearance is gorgeous. Opaque black body with a strong, large dark brown head. Great retention. Starts with a very mild chocolate sweetness, before it becomes more of a dark chocolatey flavor in the middle. Pretty heavy on the burnt flavors in the middle, with a fair share of anise-like flavors. Finishes a bit astringent and quite bitter. I wish this had a little more sweetness. Just really kind of gritty and harsh for my palate.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber from the Nugget Market in Vacaville, CA. Pours very black with a slight dark tan head that didnít last long. Aroma is dark roast malt, with some thing so intense it makes me think of meat. Full bodied plus! Flavor is very smooth dark roast malt, with bitterness. I think thereís coffee and chocolate. Treacle. Hop - must be. This is very strongly flavored ale. There is no trace of heat. Thereís too much malt to label it dry, but it deserves to be labeled dry. Itís just that sort of thing. Strong flavors; bitterness; malt struggling to assert itself. I will not be surprised to find this getting impressive awards. Think Iím getting some hop burn with time. Incredibly excellent ale.
