COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION Just for fun, we tossed our Scotch Ale into American Oak Cabernet barrels from Albeno Munari Winery in Murphys, California. The beer resided in the barrels at a higher than normal temperature for a little over a month and developed subtle red wine and oak aromas and flavors. A hint of vanilla aroma and flavor from the barrel is noticeable. Otherwise, characteristics follow that of the base Scotch Ale.
Poured a hazy reddish brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of oak, cabernet, carmel, toffee and light earthiness. Palate was light to medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of oak, toffee, carmel, cabernet and a hint of earthiness with a crisp dry lingering oak finish.
