Our first beer brewed and released to the market. The IPA style was developed by the British to enable beer to survive a long voyage by ship from Britain to the colonies in India to supply the troops during the late 1700s and early 1800s. Beer usually spoiled on the trip, so a higher alcohol content and additional hops were used as natural preservatives. Our version is the American style, using a higher hopping rate than the British style, and American hops that produce citrusy and herbal/floral aromas. Moderate bitterness.

650 ml bottle, in Nevada City, probably from Costco, Sacramento.Deep golden to orange colour, white head. A typical West Coast IPA with citrussy and piney hops, but not as extreme as some. The hops are fairly well balanced with the malts. I really liked this one.

Sample from 650 ml bottle. Hazy golden orange with white head. Floral, fruity with pine, resin and grass. Dry with high bitterness and medium carbonation.

Reasonable. Fairly hoppy, a little bit fizzy. Doesn’t taste as good as some, but it’s drinkable.

Bottle thanks to joenugs. Nose is medium pine and grapefruit. Some soft caramel and bread. A hint of pepper. Fairly clear with a medium sized white head. Taste is initially lemon then some soft bread. A light mintiness mid palate. Almost menthol thing going on. Kind of under hopped for an IPA but it is seemingly growing on me. Some more orange flavors come through as it warms. This, to me, doesn’t seem like a very classic west coast IPA, but it’s pretty decent. I drank a Blallast Point Grunion before this that had more hops (and that’s a pale ale). Pretty quaffable though. The malt is present but not too sweet and it has a nice hop presence without being obnoxiously bitter.

Pretty run of the mill west coast ipa with not much malt character and a lot of bitterness from citrusy snd piney hops. Water charscter seemed off to me, too much sulfate or carbonate or something.

Slight grassy, citrusy aroma. Very light and caramel-like. Copper with white head. Great thirst quencher. Very good example of British IPA albeit too strong. Nice assertive bitter finish.

Bottle. Clear golden orange beer with a large white head. Aroma is fruity with notes of citrus, peaches, oranges, caramel and pine needles. Flavor is fruity with notes of caramel, citrus, peaches, oranges and pine needles. Balanced but not super fresh.

Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with a nice deep clear gold body that supports a thin tan head of foam. The aroma is very light offering up spicy to grassy hoppiness and then followed by some malts and then almost a cracker sort of note. The taste is smooth and gets into a decent amount of pine hops balanced by some malt sweetness. To midway it gets a little grapefruit and tangelo like and those citrus notes only build into the finish. At the finish a thin feeling body is noticed but this doesn’t really distract from the taste all that much. Pretty nice.
