Our first beer brewed and released to the market. The IPA style was developed by the British to enable beer to survive a long voyage by ship from Britain to the colonies in India to supply the troops during the late 1700s and early 1800s. Beer usually spoiled on the trip, so a higher alcohol content and additional hops were used as natural preservatives. Our version is the American style, using a higher hopping rate than the British style, and American hops that produce citrusy and herbal/floral aromas. Moderate bitterness.

Hazy (good resinous dank look) orange straw color. White dense head. Piney hop flavor that goes on too long after initial tasting. Some sweet grain huskiness as if mashed at too low temperature. Not unpleasant, just noticeably unique for an IPA.

650 ml bottle, in Nevada City, probably from Costco, Sacramento.Deep golden to orange colour, white head. A typical West Coast IPA with citrussy and piney hops, but not as extreme as some. The hops are fairly well balanced with the malts. I really liked this one.

Reasonable. Fairly hoppy, a little bit fizzy. Doesn’t taste as good as some, but it’s drinkable.

Bottle thanks to joenugs. Nose is medium pine and grapefruit. Some soft caramel and bread. A hint of pepper. Fairly clear with a medium sized white head. Taste is initially lemon then some soft bread. A light mintiness mid palate. Almost menthol thing going on. Kind of under hopped for an IPA but it is seemingly growing on me. Some more orange flavors come through as it warms. This, to me, doesn’t seem like a very classic west coast IPA, but it’s pretty decent. I drank a Blallast Point Grunion before this that had more hops (and that’s a pale ale). Pretty quaffable though. The malt is present but not too sweet and it has a nice hop presence without being obnoxiously bitter.
