Soul Crusher is the biggest, most complex beer that we have ever brewed. We did a double mash and took only the high gravity first runnings from each mash to create this giant, deep brown stock ale with assertive, yet balancing bitterness. It has complex malt presence with very subtle British hop influence. The addition of brown sugar adds another layer of complexity and a rum-like quality to the brew.

I think the version I had was closer to 11% than 13.7. Brown pour, super strong malt and booze nose and flavor. Somehow the ba version was tamer than this. Bittersweet, roasty finish.

On tap @ Tap 25. Had to try this just for the name. Deep mahogany colored beer without much in the way of foam. Maybe a little oily looking. Pretty boozy for my tastes. Holy smokes. Fumey, almost. Getting past that, there’s a lot of caramel, toffee, and molasses sweetness going on here. Almost a bit of licorice/fennel. Chocolate malts, rum raisin, and some prune. Intense, certainly.

Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with a nice clear deep amber body that has sort of gold hues and highlights and supports a thin tan head of foam. The aroma is bruising with plums and cherries and I can’t help but think it has a very light cherry cough syrup sort of sensation. Off in the background murmurs of spicy sort of black strap molasses are at just noticeable levels. The taste is pretty smooth and rich where a pleasing sweet malty sort of molasses sensation makes for a softness on which the dark fruity esters build with plums and cherries and a bit of date notes to midway. It remains smooth and soft with sweetness and some dark fruity esters right into the finish. Pretty darn tasty brew.

On tap at Dust Bowl - Lots and lots of rubbing alcohol in the aroma and palate. There is some neutral sweetness, edging towards caramel sweetness. Great...you guys can make a beer with a lot of alcohol and no complexity. You can do better than this."

On tap at Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours dark brow with a nice tan head and a sweet molasses aroma. There is a hearty brown sugar and treacle flavor with loads of alcohol and a bitter finish.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2013 Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours darkly ruddy with orange glints. Malty aroma. Full bodied or nearly. Flavor is malty, caramel with a hint of chocolate. Seems to be a little earthy. No heat to me. Finishes not very sweet. Tasty. Different. Really good.

Draft. Mahogony beer with a dark cream head. Carameland light cola aroma with light dark fruits. Caramel/toffee flavor with light alcohol and light fruitiness. Medium bodied. Caramel/toffee lingers with light dark malts and light fruitiness.

On tap at Beer Revolution. It pours a clear dark red color with an orange head. The aroma has tons of dried fruit, cherries and tangerines. Some caramel and alcohol as well. The flavor is dense with balancing caramel and fruit candy maybe a hint of toffee and cocoa. Lots of warming alcohol with a sweet and bitter finish. The body is hefty and oily, but well attenuated. Very well made and not too hot. Reminds me a bit of Victory Old Horizontal.
