biznizness (930), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA Nov 1, 2009 Draft at Monks. Quite disappointing. Seemed to lack a complex flavor, a little too thin in the body... just nothing great. Ah well, at least I got to try it. JohnnyJ (1282), Carlsbad, California, USA Oct 30, 2009 On tap at Monks Cafe. Pours a clear gold, nice rocky white head. Floral hops, fruit, citrus, hay, a bit of pepper, apple, and bread. A nice beer, quite refreshing and almost saison like. CharlesDarwin (1821), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Oct 18, 2009 On tap at the Ginger Man - NYC. Pours a brilliant, sparkling crystal golden, with a tuft of rocky, well-lacking ultra-white head. Aroma is of clean, spring-like freshness, based on cool pilsener malt. The flavor is beautiful. Light, gentle, clean airy pilsener malt is complementing by the house, characteristic yeast profile, but none of the alcoholic complexities, lacking depth in pear, apple, and spice. Supremely drinkable, even at 7-something. Fresh, prickling with carbonation, cool, and bright. This is a delicious classic Belgian Ale. The curtness of the yeast offers balance to the mineral and pilsener malt qualities that just harken a warm, spring mid-morning somewhere in a western European river valley, dunking your toes in a small stream, eating crusty bread, and rustic cheese with a loved one, trees blossoming and birds singing. This beer is as cresting a work of pilsener malt and belgian yeast as one could ask for. Stunning and likely, under appreciated. Just don’t go in expecting the traditional Duvel, or you’ll be disappointed. LooseCannon (914), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Oct 17, 2009 Draft @ RFD Washington DC. Pours clear golden in color with full foamy white head. Aroma floral hops, caramel and malt. Taste acided, hops and breedy with dry finish. beersearcher (197), Glendale, California, USA Oct 16, 2009 Strange yellow color with the green lettering from the chalice giving it a weird green tint. Big head. Almost a cross between a saison and a Belgian golden. Light and refreshing CanIHave4Beers (831), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Oct 12, 2009 Pours a hazy blonde with a big fluffy white head.
The aroma is of soft hay and spicy but mildly aromatic hops with a light fruity character. The flavor is largely dry with some light hop bitterness, clean and baguette like, reminiscent of champagne in many ways.
JFURYCAT (782), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 4, 2009 On tap at Monks. The body seems lighter and the taste isn’t as spicy as regular Duvel but the extra malts and hops seem to lend a nice sweetness which makes this a rather pleasant brew. tarheels86 (700), Washington DC, USA Oct 3, 2009 On tap at RFD in Washington into tulip. Pours a very clear, light yellow with two-finger, white head that has okay retention and leaves some good lacing. Actually as this glass goes around for other to taste the color does in fact look a bit green. Very sweet aroma with candi sugar, Belgian yeast, and some grassy hops. Taste is quite hoppy and dry throughout. Lots of white pepper. Citrusy, bitter finish. Light to medium bodied. 7.5% is well hidden.
