Bottle from Sainsburys consumed on New Years Eve, in the Duvel glass. A pale golden beer with the typical Duvel massive head. aroma is fresh and floral, slightly herbal. To taste it is sweet with a strong herbal bitterness. Sharp carbonation on the tongue. It’s close to Duvel but quite different. Enjoyable.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of Ungstrup. Hazy, pale golden with a tall, bubbly and very lively, white head. Sweet aroma of malt and yeast. Full-bodied with very sweet malts and a distinct yeastiness. Some medicinal notes. A little low in carbonation. Subdued bitterness. I don’t really recall any of those US/Belgian hybrid beers that have left a markable impression. This was no exception. 191207

Hazy golden colour with a huge white head. Light aroma of hops such as citrus and peach, also hints of yeast. Flavour of yeast, sweet malt and little hoppy. Ends up with an alcohlic finish.

Very expensive when bought from Sainsburys as a Christmas treat. Poured with a big head which never seemed to disappear so you felt like were drinking through a snowball. Golden hoppy and bitter but not worth the extravagant price.

75 cL bottle, Kerstbierfestival 2007 in Essen/Belgium. Pours hazy yellow with a dense white head. Aroma is mild peach fruity and citrus fruity in general. Sweet fruity hops flavour with a solid malt base and some fruity note lingering on top. Finish is mellow to sweet not so bitter as such. Nice brew but tastes a bit like a down watered Struise-Mikkeller brew. Not bad but somehow Belgian yeast and american hops just don’t go well together.

Bottle picked up from Kidlington Sainsbury’s had this 23-12-07 Pours hazy golden with the usual Duvel huge cushion of foam, wonderful yeasty spiciness on the nose, some hops and touch of citrus. The taste is also spicy yeasty treat but this is definately somewhat more refined than your average Duvel, really fresh some satsuma’s or clementine peel flavours jiggling around with the more usual suspects one would expect to find. This is certainly hoppy but nowhere near as much as I expected, still it is a bloody marvellous beer.

Thanks a lot Mike. Hazy golden pour, huge gusher of a white head. Aroma is a spicy triple like aroma with some honey and phenolic yeast. Flavor is honey and belgian yeast, spicy and phenolic with light fruits. Not bad at all but not a lot going on.
