The first two batches of Duvel Tripel Hop were brewed with Saaz-Saaz, Styrian Golding and Amarillo. From now on Duvel Tripel Hop will have a different hop every year that will be added in the brewing process as well as being used for dry hopping. For 2012 this hop is Citra.

Editor’s note: clearly distinguishable, in a circle on the label it reads "Dry Hopped with Citra 2012 Selection"

330ml bottle from IPB.
Appearance : Clear pale yellow with medium foamy white head. Some lacing.
Aroma : Belgian yeast with light spices and light malt. Some herbal and slightly citrusy notes. Very light cat piss notes.
Taste : Herbal and floral hops with belgian yeast and pight spices. Finish herbal and floral with yeast and malt. Light citrusy notes. Some bitterness on finish with herbal and floral notes. Light alcohol on finish.
Palate : Carbonation is very fizzy which lifts the body to something medium-thin.
Overall : The original Duvel is still there and the Citra dry-hop is not in your face as some of us hop-heads could expect but it mixes well with the beer without overwhelming it. I think it adds some depth in a beer that is inherently rather complex. I don’t know how old this was but I suspect it’s not super fresh so it’s possible that the dry-hopping was more prominent back then.

Bottle @ benzai’s new place. Slightly hazy pale yellow with a big white head. Smells hoppy, fruity, grapefruit.. Amazing smell. Tastes hoppy, grapefruit, fresh.. Great taste. I’m not a duvel fan, but this is quite good. Full body, great carbo.

Bottle at a bar in Namur, Belgium. Stopped for lunch in Namur on our drive home. Hit the town’s opening day of the January sales. Place was buzzing! The bar was lovely - very charming and spacious, with good food, and the Duvel Triple Hop 2012 chalked up on board as a special. The beer has a fascinating aroma of fresh cut grass, cat’s pee, nettles, limes and lemons. The extra hops give a sharper taste to the Duvel. Nice.

25.4 oz bottle. Clear pale yellow with a bumpy white head. Nose is orange peel, toffee, pineapple and sweet grass. Medium body, resiny with a bracing sparkle. Taste is lemon basil, toffee, parsley and faint honey. Its got an odd herbal, almost rubbery, finish but still pretty good.

750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, 2012 vintage. Pours lightly hazy golden straw color with a 2-3 finger fluffy white head with amazing retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice foamy lacing clings to the glass, with a nice amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big pineapple, mango, tangerine, orange zest, lemon, floral, grass, pear, light pepper, and herbal. Fantastic aromas with great hop balance and complexity. Taste of mango, pineapple, lemon zest, orange zest, floral, grass, light pepper, pear, tangerine, herbal, and earthy spiciness. Good amount of floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pineapple, mango, orange zest, tangerine, floral, grass, light pepper, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic balance and complexity of hop flavors; great sweetness/bitterness balance as well; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full bodied; and an lightly slick, sticky, and fairly prickly mouthfeel that is very nice. Alcohol is extremely well hidden, with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic Belgian IPA. Great hop flavor balance and complexity; and very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering.
