The first two batches of Duvel Tripel Hop were brewed with Saaz-Saaz, Styrian Golding and Amarillo. From now on Duvel Tripel Hop will have a different hop every year that will be added in the brewing process as well as being used for dry hopping. For 2012 this hop is Citra.

Editor’s note: clearly distinguishable, in a circle on the label it reads "Dry Hopped with Citra 2012 Selection"

I’m worried I’ve only got 4 bottles of this great brew left, It’s been my favourite beer over the last year. The addition of the Citra initially caused concern, it’s a fairly common hop and one I’d sampled in several US beers but boy does it work with Duvel, the hoppy smell bubbles forth and the taste of the dry hopping brings this beer to the next level. My challenge is to source more or persuade Duvel to rebrew this baby.

typical Duvel appearance of hazy, very pale yellow colour and huge, though not too dense and stable head; aroma of bread, floral-honey notes, grapefruit, orange zest oils, maybe pineapple, hints of sauerkraut and piney notes; taste is basically the same; brilliant beer from Duvel again!

0.33l bottle. Clear pale golden body, thick white head. Aroma of sweet bread, honeydew melon, grapefruit, blackberry and floral hops. Taste of bread, grapefruit, orange zest, pine, honey and floral hops. Very nice beer. Given that Citra was used in lots of beer in the recent years, I thought it won’t amaze me that much, but I was wrong. It really fits this beer.

Bright golden with a large white frothy head. Aromas of lemon, grapefruit and orange up front with hints of lime, mango, passion fruit developing further down a noticeable papaya aroma. Effervescent, slick and full bodied. Medium sweet with a light acidity and pronounced bitterness. Lasting zesty bitter finish, could showcase more of the hops.
