The first two batches of Duvel Tripel Hop were brewed with Saaz-Saaz, Styrian Golding and Amarillo. From now on Duvel Tripel Hop will have a different hop every year that will be added in the brewing process as well as being used for dry hopping. For 2012 this hop is Citra.

Editor’s note: clearly distinguishable, in a circle on the label it reads "Dry Hopped with Citra 2012 Selection"

THOUGHTS: Still hard to believe a beer this light in color is so full of flavor and has such a high ABV which is barely noticeable in the flavor. Incredible beer. I really hops this one come back. Way better than the classic original. Further proof of the capabilities of the citra hops. Hid alcohol unbelievably well. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a sparkling, golden yellow with a huge, white head that mostly but slowly diminished. The aroma had moderate grain, cracker and pale malt; heavy tropical fruit hops; moderate resinous hops; and light citrus, lemon and pineapple hops; and moderate funky yeast. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and bitter, and moderately acidic; while the finish was moderately sweet and acidic, and heavily bitter with an average to long duration. There was cracker, pale malt, tropical fruit hops, slightly resinous hops, light funky yeast, light citrus hops, lemon and pineapple. The light to medium body was very dry with fizzy carbonation and a slightly metallic and astringent finish.

Medium aroma of malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, hops and citrus.

Clear/hazy yellow/golden beer with a medium/large white head.

Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel and Belgian yeast; ends slightly bitter with hops and citrus.

Now rebrewed as Tripel Hop no 2. Pale gold, grapefruit pith on the nose, dry and bitter, bitter lemon and dry grass in the finish.

sample from bottle at ZBF. new batch from 2016. poured a clear deep golden colour with a white head on top. nose of fresh citrus, crisp malts, spiced yeast, floral notes, grapefruit, mango, and sweet pech stone fruits. this is by far the the best and fruited duvel tripel hop version. and again a example how good and fruited citra hops is. slight yeasty finish. carbonation, very refreshing. a clear winner for me.

Hazy golden color with white head. Aroma is citrusy, sweet, a bit soapy, wheat, spicy yeasts. Taste is spicy, citrusy, good balance, perfumed, a bit phenolic towards the end. High carbonation, but fine-bubbled. Very good!

Bottle at home. Aroma is citrus, lemon, grassy hops, light pale malt, some peachy notes, mild yeast. Flavour is lightly sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium. Lovely Citra hopped Belgian Ale, my favourite of the Duvel Tripel Hop serie.

Found some old ratings on paper from an unknown date... pours to a hazy yellow body with a creamy slick white head and nice lacing. The aroma is Belgian yeasty with a subtle hop. Pretty complex. The flavor is lightly hoppy Belgian Duvel yeast with an ultra subtle banana. Soooo complex. The palate is very smooth with a perfect hop bitterness balance. Velvety texture.
