For this 2014 edition, our brewers have selected Mosaic. This new US hop variety enhances the beer with a tangerine sweetness, hints of tropical fruit and an interesting blueberry flavour.

Cor dourada, turva. Espuma persistente. Aroma de frutas tropicais. Paladar de lúpulo intenso e frutas amarelas. Retrogosto amargo e alcoólico. Aroma e paladar diferenciados.

Over hyped! The usual Duvel super head. $5.29/11.2 ounces is bad value compared to all the American mosaic brews! 9.5% ABV is opposite to the trend to session beers.

2015-04-01. Crisp yellow body with a nice white head. 3+ Aroma is interesting, lightly grassy with a lemon-lime like mineral character, mild fruit touches. 7+ Flavour is dry and relatively alcoholic on first sip, moderate bitterness throughout with mild lemon-lime like fruit as in the aroma, mild pale malt core. Finishes quite dry and fairly alcoholic. Average plus body is fairly effervescent. Tasty but like the regular Duvel I find that the dry prominence of the alcohol is a bit distracting. Bottle from the LCBO c/o Blankboy.

UPDATED: APR 4, 2015 This beautiful Triple Hop theme Annual growth Duvel brings a beautiful translucent golden color with a dense foam of relatively long duration that maintains a constant presence in the wall of the cup. Its aroma is put on a show for me, which emerges in my senses the feeling of mint, lemon peel sour, the peculiar acidity tangerine, wet grass, passion fruit, a dry pine and not as honey. In the mouth has a lot of liquid texture and great fluidity, surfacing lemon, jasmine flowers and logically many herbaceous and floral hops and spices. A slight acidity bothered me to some tasting of time, but soon reappears lemon touch with its aggressive side, which mixes the softness of certain herbal notes that return the balance beer. In its aftertaste felt some tropical fruits like melon, pear, a nice touch of Belgian yeast, tangerine, passion fruit and lemon grass as not giving a very light feeling sour. Very nice beer. Your body is medium and alcohol is around 9.5% abv is well inserted and shall we say, disguised by light beer sweetness giving this golden girl treacherouse airs. To my taste has a drinkability average. Say this annual version beer proved to be more herbaceous and floral than in previous versions, with a Tripel Hop not as this, however I found this beer better than the previous year (2013). How critical acknowledge that the hops are not blended very well with the other ingredients in this issue, so in my view, this beer has two facets: A little tough and "painful" at the very beginning of the tasting, but has a great length makes it interesting and enjoyable by diversification of flavors.

Bottle (courtesy of aetheon). Pours a hazy straw yellow color with a thin white head. Aroma is Belgian; with a grassy, lemony, grassy hop feel. Taste is slightly sweet; with tropical fruits, lemon, grassy hops, a bit of spice, and the Belgian yeast. Very effervescent carbonation; almost like a Champagne . Mouthfeel is light to medium, with a dry, bitter finish. Very easy to drink, considering the ABV. Nice!

Wow! I was a little disappointed revisiting the regular Duvel, which I used to enjoy years ago, but this new hoppy variety is a pleasant surprise. Cloudy, very bubbly with a persisting head, lighter fruit flavors, crisp and dry and with a nearly totally concealed killer ABV. How do they do this? Remarkable brew. It’s so easy to drink, it should be against the law!
