4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Je proeft dat het duvel is maar toch wel met meer en veel hop toetsen! Mooi balans goed bier voor speciale gelegenheden.

yes, please! stood out to me far more than the pretty good base beer. the hops really pop and stand in contrast to the lightly spicy fruity yeast. not cheap, but nice.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 15, 2014 750ml bottle served in its own tulip glass.
2010 Edition: Styrian Goldings, Saaz and Amarillo.
A: Pours a pale yellow cloudy color forming a huge white, fluffy and soapy head that only Duvel can produce. Excellent retention. It never disappears completely forming and leaving tons of lacings in the glass
S: Smells like the regular Duvel. Very malty and yeasty. As expected, hops are more intense and stingy in this version. Citrus hops, flowery hops, earthy hops. Alcohol can be felt in the very end
T: Excellent in the mouth. Really amazing beer. I couldn’t imagine that I could find an improved version of Duvel. Hop heads like me will love it! Well, first of all a strong malts backbone followed by the Belgian yeasts and the intense combination hops. In overall a dry and bitter beer. Pure pleasure. Hops are earthy, citrus and refreshing
M: A medium to full bodied beer. Quite carbonated. Quite bitter with a bready and yeasty aftertaste
O: Very drinkable. Amazing beer in all aspects. Even better than the regular Duvel (yes, it’s possible ;))

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear light hay colour beer with lots of bubbles and a beautiful head.
Smell champagne, sold abd gteapefruit, nicely balancded. Sweetish, sour.
Taste is dry sweetish with an alcohólico touch. Grapefruit bitterness in the finish with champagne.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
When IPA’s started to seep into Belgian beer culture, Moortgat came up with this compromise between IPA and Belgian-style tripel, based on the regular Duvel and spawning a whole bunch of other such ’tripel hops’. Luxury beer in 75 cl champagne bottles and expensive box, originally intended for internal purposes but eventually, in 2007, launched onto the market in a limited edition of 22,000 bottles - which at that time were not that easy to find. Very thick and dense, beautifully lacing, yellowish white head, very stable; pale ’old gold’ colour, a bit darker than the regular Duvel but with the same fierce sparkling, misty. Powerful aroma, silky soft pale malts intelligently mingled with nose-teasing flowery hops and discrete unripe fruits, alcohol piercing through in a gentle, warming way; impressions of unripe peach, fresh apple juice, old gin, straw, freshly cut grass, lemon peel, field flowers, sweet white wine, orange, tonic water. Subdued sweetness in the mouth with subtle touches of honey, apricot and apple, some orange peel making a comeback later in the finish, sparkling carbonation with a slightly sourish effect, all constructed onto a supple, rounded, smooth maltiness, finish an interesting play of bitter spicy tones, the sweetish fruitiness from the onset and aromatic flowery hops, long and very dry, little bit woody though no oak-ageing is involved, with warming alcohol reminiscent of a Poire William. What a beautiful beer, a class of its own; it would be unfair to plainly compare this with the regular Duvel, this is something different.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2010. Pours a clear light amber colour with a frothy white head. Aroma is floral and slightly earthy with apple and citrus notes. Taste is neither overly bitter over sweet, a little bland. Smooth on the palate, light body, and softer carbonation. A decent beer overall.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared with wyzzywyz22. Slightly hazy yellow gold with a healthy almost white head. Aroma has yeast, spice and sweetness. Flavour is similar, some alcohol strength, not bad really. Certainly drinkable, wasn’t worth the rather hefty price tag though.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Opened another bottle of these last weekend, though it was infected around the cork. Resulted in a sour beer with no foam. Smelled oké in a way, like a sour ale, but the taste was bad.
So rating from memory of the previous bottles I had of this beer.
APPEARANCE: clear blond beer, nice stable white head.
NOSE: hoppy, spices, alcohol more noticable.
TASTE: very hoppy, long lasting fruitiness, some alcohol, rather sweet.

Not my favorite beer. Funky taste and aroma. Normally a big duvel fan but i will pass on it. Perhaps it sat to long.

2010 cold, corked 750ml bottle: Pours a cloudy, pale gold color with a frothy, alabaster head that leaves some lacing on the glass. Aroma and taste are of light grains with lemon/citrus and grass notes. Medium bodied and crisp, with good carbonation. Well blended; the hops are subtle and the alcohol is well hidden. Cheers, Volgon! ☆
