33cl bottle, poured into a tulip. Little foam, quickly dissipates. Straw yellow colour, a little cloudy. Lively, carbonated. Sweet, banana caramel flavours. Easier to drink than its ABV of 8.5%.

Bottle 330ml. pours clear light golden-yellow with a tall, lasting, dense white-yellowish head. Aroma with sweet ripe fruits and yeast. Mouth feel is creamy to oily with medium carbonation. Nicely tickling and tangy. Taste is slightly sweet at first and then turns drier, with weak background bitterness and very slight sourness. Flavors of very ripe fruit, sharp white wine, alcohol, yeast unpleasant ethanol, sharp sweetish mint, peppery, menthol, slight sweet and sour orange. Refreshing, crisp and light with cooling, sharp flavors, yet full body and texture. The alcohol was very present and had unpleasant off flavors, otherwise very nice and surprisingly easy to drink.

Ik ben geen Duvel-drinker, maar ik begrijp wel waarom veel mensen dit graag drinken.

La blonde belge chère à mon coeur. Une amertume inimitable. On est en terrain bien connu mais jamais, oh grand jamais, décevant.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours hazy pale gold with an immense frothy bubbly head that gradually sets to a froth islands on top of the beer. Aroma is decretely malty with prickly spices from hops. In the mouth it’s a very lively beer, the Saaz hops coming in the first wave on top of the sweetness from the malt and some sourness from the Moortgat yeast. The high carb accentuates the hop in a very nice way. Overall, a well made classic and a thirst quencher. I remember my first Duvel, bought in Amsterdam, having heard how strong this beer was. I found it taste like airplane fuel, and I hated it, calling it rubbish. How your palate can develop, eh?

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2014 Transfer from BA review on 9-20-12- Poured from bottle into tulip glass Appearance – Pours a lighter golden color with a huge thick white head and a light haze. The head has a great level of retention, but it eventually fades to leaves some very nice lacing. Smell - The aroma is heaviest of a pepper, yeast, and banana smells. Mixed with these aromas are notes of a citrus and biscuit smell as well as some aromas of an herbal and grassy nature. Taste – The taste begins with a combination of a biscuit and sour but lightly sweet citrus taste. As the taste advances the sour and slightly drier flavors up front are met with notes of yeast. Accompanied by the yeast are flavors of banana and a light peppery taste. Toward the end of the taste some other spice flavors as well as a lightly herbal hop flavor comes to the tongue to leave a rather dry but smooth flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the lighter side for an ABV of 8.5 % with a carbonation level that is on the higher side. The lighter body and carbonation are rather fitting for the more sour flavors of the brew, with the lighter body only accentuating the very drinkable nature of the brew. Overall - A very delicious and drier but quite flavorful Belgian. Renowned for a reason.
