A huge rocky-frothy white head, which is long lasting; a clear dark yellow body. A moderate acidic taste with a average duration. The texture is creamy and the body medium, the carbonation is quite lively. The finish is very light metallic. A nice strong one! ckau (26), north east, Maryland, USA

High carbonation makes this beer tickle the tongue and delivers a slight residual sweetness at the end. For 8.5%ABV this will sneak up on you. Very little alcohol flavor, very slight warming at end. scottw86 (186), Maryland, USA

Flavor also has notes of apples, bananas, yeast, and malts. It is very sweet and delicious to drink. Might be my favorite Belgian! Gary (351), Buckinghamshire, England
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 12, 2008 Updated: Oct 12, 2009. Ive drank Duvel thousands of times. My previous review was long winded. Duvel is always in my fridge. Duvel deserves its status as being almost symbolic of Belgian beer itself. Duvel iz fun drinking. You know you’re drinking something classy , yet swill it like its a corner store vodka. The palate is eazy . Very spicy and dry . I love how drinkable and flavoursoame the recipe iz. Duvel gets you shitfaced in no time . Lots of fruit esters (apple.pear. banana).Nice mild sweet texture. Fantastic foamy top with a Pilsner coloured base. 750ml bottles give nice cork elements to aroma and flavour. Classic robust blonded ale Delirium (502), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 12, 2008 750ml bottle. Pours clear light yellow with a large lasting head, with an oddly meringue-like consistency. Aroma is pervasively yeasty, with a nice mixture of apple, slightly sweet pale malt, slight spiciness, and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is similar, a little heavier on the yeast and light fruits, maybe adding some pear to the apple, and a little pepper in the finish. Not hugely complex, and seems almost too simple at first, but quite tasty and well balanced, with enough complexity to stay interesting. Pyrozoid (352), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada

It poured a golden, rich color with a thicker head than I am used to. The tulip glass that this is served in has an influence on the one-of-a-kind size and shape of the head. The lacing was sticky and had an aroma of alcohol, honey, and malts (in that order). There is a little fruit in the flavor, but not enough to say that this is a complex beer -- it is mostly alcohol and sweetness. It is a simple one, but good and strong. A perfect example of the style, golden ales, in my opinion. popephred (193), Plainfield, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 8, 2008 Poured from the bottle into a goblet. Pour produced a pale golden body topped with a thick meringue-like head. The carbonation danced wildly in the glass the entire time. Aroma is an earthy citrus with notes of grain. This is a light bodied and slightly sweet ale with light notes of honey. I am very impressed with how well the ABV is covered up in the crafting of this ale. Duvel goes down very easily, with a crisp dry, slightly hoppy aftertaste. Worth the $10 US for the 1.5 pint bottle.
