Bottle poured into a chalice. Pours a slightly hazy, straw-gold with a small white head on top. Good retention, and there’s plenty of lace left behind. The nose is sharp with Belgian yeast, sour citrus, dry grass, coriander. This one starts out really spritzy and a bit harsh. A massive amount of carbonation on the palate. Thankfully, though, this smooths out as I sip. Gets much more mellow and cleans itself up. A bit dry on the finish. Wonderful balance on this one. Completely understand now why this one is rated so highly. Spice, tart yeast, lemon zest, dry crackers. Just a touch of alcohol rounds this one out. Man this is incredibly balanced! Nothing really overpowers here, but every flavor plays their part and adds to the whole. A spectacular beer. This is a style I don’t drink very often as I haven’t had many that I really crave, but this one jumped to the top of this list. One I will revisit again and again.

Bottle, family treat in Serbia while cooking food and relaxing. Real golden hazy pour a bit pale, huge and frothy white foam. Nose: true hoppy upfront, a bit lemon grass, some citric. Some spicy background, grapes leftovers in winery. Mouth: frizzy carbo, spicy classic Belgian notes, decent aperitif orientation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

0.33 l bottle from Alko Arkadia, Helsinki. Very pale and clear with a decent head. Yeah, looks like a weak lager, but this is a heavy ale. Spicy and floral hops. Light body, but lots of alcohol which doesn’t taste at all. Very deceptive and dangerous. The old Nick indeed.

This is a longtime favourite of mine. I loved it as a teenager because it was big and reputable but easy drinking. It’s still easy but complex. Fruit, spice and that great Belgian yeast flavour. Beautiful clear golden colour and a big strong head that sticks around. Very clean finish.

A classic Belgian. A bit hot on first taste, moving through nice bready flavours and a creamy finish.

Hazy pale color with tiny white head. Aroma of citrus, fruit, banana, yeast. Taste is sweetish with sourish finish and also some alcohol in finish. Fizzy carbonation. Pretty nice and strong beer.

First time in a couple of years. Bottle. Orange-gold pour with a head difficult to keep down. Grassy with floral hop and yeast flourishes. Dough and citrus. Plenty of citrus on the palate, lovely balance of yeast and malt, carried through with a bright Bohemian hop character. Really refreshing, a hint of alcohol creeping in later not detracting, still unbeatable for the style.
