detroitsteel (208), England Dec 16, 2006 As a kid this was held in the same sort of regard as crystal meth - it was insanely strong & would send you crazy. Mind you, back then the Stella and Becks were thought of as being ’quality’ imported beers, and this & Chimay Blue where the only strong Belgian beers around, so there you go - we were stupid kids. Amazing head, like a heap of ice-cream - previous reviews have mentioned bananas in the flavour and thats spot on, sweet but not cloying. Very drinkable, not much evidence of its high alcohol content. The fact that you can pick it up in any supermarket in the UK now doesn’t detract from how good it is.
esox (35), Oulu, Finland May 12, 2008 330 ml bottle. Huge firm head is white and it lasts. Liquid is yellow and a bit cloudy. Lots of yeast and medium sweet malty aromas. Many fruity notes, at least citrus fruits and banana. Great hoppy character with some spiciness. Alcohol is dangerously well hidden. Flavor is fresh bitter with balancing sweetness of the malts. Yeast gives also some sourness. Medium body. Lots of carbonation that turns into creamy and delicious head when poured into a glass with craving on the bottom. Espcecially well balanced beer with taste and looks. el_caballo (92), Beverly Hills, California, USA May 10, 2008 an obviously quality brew with flavors that just did not match up with my palate, yeasty with floral notes. It got better the more i worked at and may go back again but I was not in love with this good beer jhagmar (48), Gothenburg, Sweden May 10, 2008 Thanks to ekstedt & friends. Light yellow with a white head. Faint smell of yeast and hops. Sweetish sour taste. Light mouthfeel. Light carbonation. mojoharper (7), South Africa does not count May 8, 2008 Large, yeasty white head and golden color. The aroma of this beer hints of floral hops, yeasty zest, and lemon. Taste is a complex, spicy fruit with notes of yeast, citrus, and dried apple. Finishes incredibly smooth despite high alcohol. Addictive. gfolivares (28), McAllen, Texas, USA May 8, 2008 Pours a beautiful sparkling golden color with a large billowing white head. Aromas of citrus and aromatic hops upon nosing. Medium bodied, with a well balanced malt flavor that gives way to a clean crisp hop bitterness, and a dry, citric finish with hints of currant. This beer is very appetizing and warming. Surprisingly mild tasting for its strength and dangerously drinkable. Widely immitated and sure to be an enduring world classic. Try with fried or grilled fish and french fries.
