3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JoeMcPhee (6966) - Toronto, ON, - AUG 2, 2005
Pale straw colour with a thin white head. Slightly hazy. I can smell ginger with this thing held at arms length. Massive spicy ginger aroma along with some sweet herbal hop character. There is a full biscuit malt character backing up the spice. Coupled with a really bready character, it makes this beer like drinking a gingerbread cookie. A touch of citrus and heat in the back of the throat makes this a great brew on a cold Christchurch afternoon.

From the archives of my notes: Pours a light straw - golden with a touch of haze, full on aromas of golden ginger and citrus. Same evident in flavours, prickly mouthfeel and loads of carbonation from bottle conditioning. An excellent palate cleanser or to accompany a curry. Have set aside a small supply of this (since long gone, but I might just go out and get some more considering what I wrote a year or two ago).
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Ungstrup (23969) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 28, 2011
Bottled. A hazy golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has strong notes of ginger combined with medium notes of pumpkin, cinnamon, and other spices. The flavor is sweet again with strong notes of ginger combined with medium notes of cinnamon, leading to a dry finish. The body is light.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 phaleslu (3543) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - OCT 20, 2009
Draft at Dux De Lux in Christchurch. Pours slightly cloudy gold with almost no head. The ginger is absolutely aggressive on the nose and palate. It masks most other notes, but I did pick up on honey, citrus, malt, and sugar. Spicy, peppery, caustic mouthfeel from the heavy dose of ginger, and sticky from the other sweeteners. Very sweet overall, especially upon the finish.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 sdriessen (318) - Dunedin, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 27, 2009
Is what it is, a ginger beer. Not necessarily in the traditional sense, as it’s a basic lager brewed with a buttload of ginger.
Yummy though, for what it is.
Honey sweetness I quite enjoyed!
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 nate2g (1548) - Boomtown!, AUSTRALIA - APR 11, 2009
Draught at Dux de Lux, Queenstown. Another Kiwi alcoholic ginger beer...Pours golden with a white head that fell flat and disappeared. Aroma of ginger and lemon. The flavour is ginger, lemon and honey. Thin bodied, mild bitterness and a peppery finish.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20 zebracakes (1340) - Washington DC, USA - JAN 5, 2009
On tap 01.05.09 at the Dux de Lux in Christchurch. Clear orange gold, no head. Aroma is super ginger. Flavor is ginger with some malt. Not my cup of tea. Reminds me of a cider.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheGrandMaster (2313) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - SEP 13, 2008
Bottle, pours a clear light amber, but with no head. Looks like a ginger ale. Not surprisingly a ginger aroma, some sweetness, with a hint of the honey. The ginger and honey comes through in the taste, but there is a decent amount of malt on the palate that makes this more ’beer’ than ’ginger’. A spicy/peppery finish. I’m a big ginger ber fan (more of the non-alcoholic variety), and I’d happily drink this on a hot summer’s day.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 pickled (47) - NEW ZEALAND - APR 7, 2008
It doesn’t look or smell like much but I’m easy to please when it comes to ginger beer. This one has a nice bite (like my home made soft version) with the added bonus of a bit of booze. Not at all like the cheap stuff in big plastic bottles. The dux is always on my list if I go to Chch.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 bozoNZ (672) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - FEB 29, 2008
Clean golden, very thin head. Sweet fresh light tinned fruit aroma, remarkably not too ginger dominant. Sweet palate with a reasonablestrong drying ginger blast. This is equally good as a summer thirst quencher or in the spa on a mid winters night.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Papsoe (22985) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JAN 26, 2008
(On tap) Clear, golden with a small, off-white head. Fresh, fruity and lightly sweet aroma. Medium body, quite sweet with light citrus notes and a very spicy - almost peppery - ginger note. This really is the hottest ginger beer I’ve ever tasted. Exciting. My thoughts go out to yespr who would’ve loved this... 230108
