Draught. Coke like with copper hues and a thin film of a head. Nutty, low carbonation, caramel and toffee flavors with slight burnt/char notes. This beer can vary from visit to visit but on it’s day is a nice drinker

Bottle, pours a dark ruby-tinted brown with a large beige head. A musty malt aroma. A sweetish roasted malt palate, which carries some bitter chocolate to the tongue at first, then becoming more fruity. The finish is tangy, but also a bit syrupy and a little short.

(On tap) Clear, dark brown with a small, creamy, beige head. Lightly burned malt aroma. Light body with hard roasted malt accents and a light, underlying sweetness. Dry, malt bitter finish. I’m a bit confused about this one though as the name is "Bitter" while the brewery describes it as a "Dark Munich Lager" and the taste is more like Schwarzbier. I’ll settle for the latter. But very decent in spite of the naming and style mess. 230108

I’ve had this one in New Zealand on my honeymoon. <br /> Sampled it at the Dux de Lux in Queenstown. Dark brown colored. Malty chocolate aroma. Sweet and malty.

Retasted 18/03/2008. 500ml bottle courtesy of BozoNZ. Dark brown with an airy tan head and a lot more vitality than the last time. A little diacetyl and astringency take away from what is otherwise a very nice dark beer with rich, bready, slightly fruity and toasty German-style base malt characters. A little chocolate too. 6/4/6/3:2.9. Tasted 27/10/2006. Pint at the brewpub. Freezing cold again. Red with copper highlights. Rich malt on the nose, hints at toffee, biscuit, toast and chocolate. Fairly sweet in the mouth with a fairly uninspiring, slightly stale, mildly malty palate. No sure why it’scalled "Bitter" as the hop profile is basically non-existent. 6/3/5/3:2.7.
