yalnikim (676), Wellington, New Zealand Aug 4, 2008 Tasted 29/07/2008. 500ml bottle from New World Miramar. Sweet buttery diacetyl bomb with a little roast. Just short of being pleasantly drinkable for me but I imagine it’d be well short for those with more of an aversion to diacetyl.
pickled (47), New Zealand Aug 29, 2008 It’s Sou’wester. I like Stouts but as the other reviewers say this one isn’t quite right. shame as the basics are there - smells ok, looks great in and out of the bottle, tastes of coffee and hops. I hope they tweak the recipe as medium strong stouts are a rare find in NZ TheGrandMaster (1526), Auckland, New Zealand Jul 30, 2008 Draught at the Queenstown brew pub, black with a foamy tan head. A roasted coffee aroma, but light and sweet. Dry, roasted malt on the palate, with a gravelly outhfeel. A diacetyl butterscotch - shame, as this could be a better beer. Alasdair (23), New Zealand Jul 28, 2008 dark with a tan head. Not much aroma - dark chocolate and a hint of hops. Tastes of a generic malty sweetness. Some chocolate, but no roast or black malt flavours.Bitterness come thorugh at the end, but with an unpleasan astringency. Seems quite watery for a 6.5% beer. Underwhelming. Kaya161 (1129), Aspen, Colorado, USA Aug 10, 2002 They call this a dark, strong, stout, but I wouldn’t. I’d call it a mild/weak porter at best. It certainly doesn’t taste 6.8%. It has a caramel-like sweetness, and not much roasted or bitter flavour. A disappointment.
