Unimpressed, was expecting great things from this green 0.75 litre Cork and Caged bottle. Best before 17 Nov 2011 it was drank and reviewed during one of my ’mixed tasting evenings’ during March 2011. The straw coloured beer looked a bit sad in the glasses, no sediment? I am already wearly, no head at all, what have I got here? The smell wasn’t helping the situation, an off malty, injected roguish, sweet aroma seemed to come from my glass. Taste wise it was semi-sweet, yet with a sour, bitter aftertatste arriving too late to save it. The sweetness seeming to kill anything else that might have wanted to get involved. Watery and weak for the style. I’ll not be getting this again.

Biere de garde, a me è sembrata più che altro una birra al caramello leggero, dato che solo quello si è fatto sentire...

75cl bottle at Aufsturz. Medium amber with an offwhite head. Aroma of toffee. Flavour is strong caramel with a sweet mouthfeel. A little fizzy with quite a strong palate.

75 cl bottle. Light amber colour, clear, small creamy white head. Nose of caramel. Aroma of caramel and sugary malts. Maybe some honey, nothing more on the fruity\spicy area, which i feel lacking. Sweet, not excessively, slightly sticky. Medium bodied, low carbonation. Bottle looks just terrible, content is not bad if you look for a smooth and easy to drink sweet beer.

On tap at Au Trappiste, Paris on 18th November 2011. Amber with thinnish white head. Yeasty aroma with sweet fruitiness. Light bodied liquid with a zingy mouthfeel. Rich malt and hoppiness in-mouth, cheesy notes and lemon citric presence. Short to medium fruity citric finish. A pleasant beer.

Sorry for the german rating, but this is a lousy rating from my "newbie" time (2007-2009), and it’s not worth of being translated. I just added it for the statistics, and to complete my backlog!

Malty taste with hints of toffee, quite a strong tasting beer. I had this years ago when working in France, just wanted to try it again

Bierkrug (1666) - Idar-Oberstein (In East Africa), Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - FEB 11, 2012
500 ml can in Dakar, Senegal. I finally found a beer I like in Senegal. Pours a gold copper color with a nice tan head and some good lace. Nose is fairly tame, but has nice characteristics of light fruit, toffee, nuts, and some earthiness. Taste is mildly sweet and fruity. Feel is light and rewarding. A mellow, well integrated beer that is one of the first Biere de Gardes that I have tried.
