2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pale, clear amber, frothy short lasting white head. Not much of a nose, some dusty malt maybe. Flavour is sugary sweet malt. Quite thin bodied, fizzy carbonation. Short sweet finish.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
75cl bottle, Auchan. Pretty smooth for a French, high-powered bière de garde, almost a mix between spéciale belge creamy caramalts and saison dry&hoppiness. Grass, pepper, butterscotch, traces of the usual bière de garde ABV harshness, but less than expected, unpresuming, one-dimensional but unbeatable for €2,50/75cl.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear amber, beige head. Fading. Not much aroma. Taste is medium sweet. Some yeast, hint of caramel. Not much wrong with this, but nothing very good either. Drinks well enough.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750ml cork bottle bought at CitySuper in Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui.
Clear amber colour; Half finger head and white foam which fades in 40 seconds; Minimal lacing and notable carbonation; Aroma of orange, honey, cherry, malt and spice; Medium sweet taste of ale malt, light honey, orange, biscuit, very light liquorices, coffee, cocoa, citrus, and hint of grass; Mid to light body, with pretty thick and oily palate; Taste profile is sweet English pale ale base, with a somewhat dark character highlighted by the presence of coffee and chocolaty notes. Liquorices influence is not that strong and so does hoppiness, which is mild in citrus aroma and only light touch of grass; Taste of alcohol becomes stronger with further sips; Flashes of hops astringency as finish. Slightly dry after taste, very easy to mouth.
Comments: This is decent enough, but not something that makes me wow. If this is a Pale Ale, then this one performs poorly as it doesn’t have that fresh and sunny taste. Its coffee / chocolate note makes me feels like a rainy, foggy days in London or Paris, pretty miserable yet strangely, I enjoy this feeling. Worth a try for this style.

A crowd pleaser of the highest order. Not terribly structured or serious but masses of soft (and sweet) milky chocolate and malt, Massively quaffable and easy going. Yep I’m seduced.
