330 ml bottle. Light amber, pretty clear, with a small but persistent off white head. The nose is pretty much dominated by caramel, toffee and toasted malts. Maybe some light floral and herbal hop presence in the far background. It does feel slightly "spicy" as well, but I can’t really say which one. Wow, not what I was expecting and totally different from the aroma. Sweet, very sweet, definitely sirupy sweet. Almost like a concentrated fruit juice or something. Solid sugary presence, a hint of honey and dark bread. But it’s all about the fruity sweetness. Warming and slightly bitter aftertaste. Zingy palate, but relativey drinkable considering the ABV. Average to lively carbonation, medium body, slightly creamy texture. Hard to judge it properly being my first biere de garde, but it’s pretty decent I guess.

Thuis / 22:30, fles. Amberkleurig met een dunne beige schuimkraag die snel verdwijnd. Caramel, toffe en vanille in de neus. Rond, zoet ietwat metalig met een lange bitterhop finish.

0.75L bottle. Pours clear amber with a frothy, off-white head. Aromas of bready malt, soy sauce, bubblegum, alcohol and honey. Medium sweetness at beginning, with tastes of caramel, butterscotch and cereal grain. Morphs into a sweet sour flavor, then finishes with a long, herby hop bitterness. Medium-full body with a slick mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Overall, a pretty drinkable beer, though nothing standing out. On the sweeter side, but manages to balance it off in the end.

Draught at GJBF Yokohama 2014. Lots of caramel, sweet dry plum, almost tastes like a Carambar (French candy) brew. Not too bad.

50 cl. can @ home, gift from Rick. Clear dark amber with a thin white head. Malty caramel aroma, slightly yeasty. Sweet taste with some alcohol warmth. Decent.

Une bière ambrée assez sympathique, belle couleur, un arôme sucré tirant vers le caramel.

Archetypical bière de garde, a bit stronger than it used to be and named after the village where the brewery is located. Thick, firm, sticky, off-white head, colour warm amber, nearly clear with quiet sparkling. Nutty malts in the nose, curaçao, peach, tomato, leafy hops, sweet tobacco, bitter honey, sage. Crisp palate, refreshing, nice dried fruits, some caramel malt sweetness, bit metallic, flowery and leafy hop bitterness in the finish and some sweetness too, smooth. I appreciated this one for its personality.

Only my second Biere de Garde, so I looked in the BJCP Style guide to better know what to expect and what no to expect too. 750ml bottle, pour is copper/amber color a medium off-white head. Aroma is malty sweet with a hint of berries. Taste is a balance of a dry bitterness and slightly caramel malt. Finish reminds me of a rye malt finish. Bitterness is present but no hop aroma or flavor (which I did not expect based on BJCP) Pleasant, drinkable, slightly boozy drink.

Can from Carrefour, central Calais. Amber with a lot of fizz and a swiftly vanishing head. Tastes like an industrial lager with the malt content beefed up a lot; maybe in fact like an insustrial lager mixed with a traditional British ESB. The malty, earthy woodland mulch ESB bits are ok, but unfortunately the strong carbonation and tinny, slightly sour lager flavour don’t go with the maltiness and frankly are pretty grim in their own right. Not for me at all this one.
