Amber with a two inch white head. Good amount of lacings. Aroma is figs, sweet malts. Taste is sweet malts, figs, some hops, alcohol. Mouthfeel is good and marginally sessionable due to the high abv.

Red-amber with a very short lived nicotine yellow head. It smells quite boozy with wafts of caramel malts. Quite sweet and fruity with a rounded caramel flavour. Something of plums and dates in it as well. Very smooth, quite oily and well-carbonated. A little sterile or chemically tasting like a dentists or a lab of some kind but drinkable none the less.

750 ml bottle. Sweet floral aromas. Flavors were similar with some spice and hints of light fruitiness. Just average really

Bottle from some supermarket in Bergerac, France. Poured a fizzy looking reddish amber with next to no head. Remained fizzy but the head went very quickly. After the shite poured down my neck the last couple of days this should have been like finding a human woman on the planet of the apes...but it wasn’t unfortunately. Bland and uninteresting. Better than many French beers in my humble opinion, but still pretty blah blah. Bah humbug.

Tap at Cafe Studio, Haarlem: Amber coloured Biere de Garde-style brew, and this is the easiest one to drink in this style.

I’ve read about this one for quite awhile as being one of the oldest producers of this style. Naturally, I was very interested as being a fan of the production methods involved.

Poured a beautiful deep copper head. Biscuit aroma with bits of old hops. Flavour is sticky-sweet with bits of funk and an odd aftertaste of hay. Quite a bit of earthiness to it, but it seems out of balance with the sweet character of the malt being too forward. A little complexity behind the malt backbone. The more I had of this the more it became a chore to finish the bottle as the sweet candied corn nature of this became a bit too much in the end. Wasn’t expecting much, but I at least was thinking it’d be much drier than it was. Disappointing.
