| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jul 2, 2008 In short: A very bland amber ale (supposedly a Bière de Garde)
How: Bottle. Sample at Mondial de la Bière 2008
The look: Clear dark golden body topped by a very small off-white head
In long: Some oily caramel, some light overripe citrus touch, light papery sensation in the finish, very smooth carbonation. Really there wasn’t anything to this beer more than that. Commercial description says “The most widely available Bière de Garde”. That doesn’t mean it’s good, my cousin Louis has been very much available for his entire life and I don’t see any taker on the horizon either. Ober (1188), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands

Aroma of sweet malt, spices, and light fruits. Flavor of light raisin, dark fruits, honey. Reminded me of Bink Bloesem without the pear. Light-bodied, decent. fredandboboflo (1404), East Setauket, New York, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 14, 2008 Pours a great beautiful, brilliant, sparkling orange/amber color.Head is medium white, and frothy... fantastic.It diminishes slowly and leaves traces against the wall of the glass and a nice film.
Aroma is malty, fruity with some yeast. Backbone of grains and bread and more in the surface, notes of oranges, tangerines, cantaloup and a touch of chardonnay wine. Not overwhelming but hell agreeable.I also feel some dusty and woody touches. The yeast?... but it’s something new for me.
Flavor is sweet and juicy. It shows hints of sweet citrus, mellon, grains and some alcoholic touches of fruit liquors. Slight bitterness in the finish adds a touch of finesse.
Body is medium to big, smooth creamy texture. Carbonation is high but not intense. The alcohol is well present and gives a nice warming sensation. A very good french beer. I liked it a lot. downender (2578), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England
