Bottle from Keg Liquor, IN. Poured a clear orange color with a large white frothy head that lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate yeasty and sweet citrus aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a smooth citrus sweet finish of average duration. Soft drinkable brew.

Bottle (75cl): Clear, amber coloured, small persisting and lacing off-white layer; sweet, caramelly,dark-malty and fruity nose; soft, moderate sweet flavour with a very faint bitterness; medium bodied; sweet-malty, bit toasted-malty finish. not very complex, but quite nice.......

A Mes rate: 33cl bottle from Thirst for Beer, Pwllheli. Milky candied (icing sugar?) nose with a little roasted malt. Amazing red amber colour with little head to speak of but what there is is strangely spotty. A little sickly flavour wise. Again its quite milky and very soft. Plenty of malt and some very slight bitterness and then more malt for the finish. Hard to dig up much to say about it really. It has some good qualities, but lacks finesse and character. Worth a sample though.

Amber-red colour and an off-white head that fades to thin lace and lasts to the bottom. Caramel malt, flowers, and light fruit smells. Flavour of apricot, peaches, and dates. Great zesty malt background and some spiciness. Citrus hop finish.

Bottle sampled on 9/20/06: Pours a clear copper orange with a thin wispy white head. Aroma of sweet caramely malt and some earthy character. Body starts sweet and malty with decent balance and a smooth slightly toasty finish. A decent Biere de Garde.
Earlier Rating: 2/12/2003 Total Score: 3
Clear copper color and a full blooming head. Soft malty aroma with slight hoppy notes. Flavor is thick, but soon thins out into an astringently bitter and sour mixture that leaves a tart sticky residue on my tounge. Only the second Bière de Garde I've tried, but nowhere near comparable to the first.

Very good, yellowish head, irregular, over foxy-orange beer. Parsley, bit of caramel, light-coloured malts. Also a nice, deeper smell of fir- or pinewoods, that I do not recall from earlier days. Light piney touch on a rather thinnish beer, characterized by the caramel/toasted malts. Maybe just a touch of diacetyl (!), and the parsley - generally sweet. Alcohol enhances just the lightly burning MF. Rather thinnish, but quite slick. The ubiquitous BdG, the icon that survived. It might have never ranked amongst my topfavourites, I would never call this poor.
