3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Tulip.
Appearance: Rich, clear reddish-copper with small, bubbly, off-white head that doesn’t leave much behind.
Aroma: Dry fruit and caramel malts balanced by pretty strong hop spiciness. Slight Belgian-like yeast noticeable.
Taste: Very fruity and malty (plum, banana, caramel, candied sugar) but also very spicy, with metallic bitterness, clove and pepper notes. Almost tastes like a mixture of Belgian, English and German styles. Somewhat strange but still tasty.
Palate: Relatively high carbonation, medium body, off-dry finish.
Overall: Interesting beer overall even if I can’t really place it, as Biere de Garde doesn’t seem to mean much here.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: JUN 25, 2011 Bottle and Draft with Vinnie numerous times. Pours a juicy brown with a frothy, two-finger off-white head. Aroma of fresh Juicy Fruit gum, grapefruit, bananas, plums, fresh red cherries, Belgian candied sugars, malts, toffee, and some fresh raisin hints in the finish. Medium, perhaps even full, bodied with a soft, juicy, supple, yet supportive and rich mouthfeel. Flavors of ripe cherries, vanilla, Juicy Fruit gum, sweet malts and some slight red grapes. Finishes clean, refreshing, and moist. Superb beer. Tragically underrated.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 mL bottle. Pours a deep burnt sienna with beige head. The aroma is yeasty with some peppery spice, toffee, over-ripe peach, distant black cherry, and a bit of black currant. The flavor is a bit on the fruity side with the cherry, peach, and black currant that I picked up in the nose, as well as a sweet orange note. There are some caramel and toffee qualities behind it. There are some very subtle hops in there. Peppery spice along with slight alcohol, mint, and coriander. Not amazing, but not bad either.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Moderate malt notes of grain, straw and roasted, light orange and dough for the hops and yeast, with hints of wood and faint dried fruit. Head is small, fizzy, off-white with virtually no lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is clear light red/tan. Flavor starts faintly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes lightly sweet, acidic and bitter. Palate is light to medium, oily with a carbonation between lively and fizzy. A very drinkable Biere de Garde, it just could use a little more of everything.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
750ml bottle - $4.54 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Appearance: Pours out a clear, darkened orange body with a bubbly, off-white head that’s soon settled out.
Smell: Simple syrup and cheap bottom-shelf alcohol coating some fruits, including some dried citrus accents. Might be more to it, but I’m not sticking around longer to find out, as, instead of failing to even pull me in, it’s a beer that pushes you away with its shortcomings.
Taste: Toasty malts, a bit of basic caramel, and some simple, unrefined sweetness. Then, a sip of coarse, well-level alcohol quickly scuttles the taste after the dreadful opening. Light cherries, but, with the booze, it yields a hint of cough syrup medicine. Growing dried bitter orange peel midway and into the sizzlingly crisp finish and beyond.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body, with some sugary stickiness to it. Moderate level of crisp carbonation.
Overall: Each sip was a bit worse than the last. Frankly, I was quite glad to be done with it and, no, I didn’t get through the entire bottle. Nothing resembling a quality Bière de Garde here at all.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
750mL at DC Elite. Pours a clear amber with not much of a head. Aroma of brandied orange, copper, metals, but the primary note is spicy, sweet brandy and orange cognac. Taste is sweet, watery, big metallic. I really want to like this beer because it has a lot of potential but ends up being very difficult to drink even in a small snifter. Copper penny character is just too much.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours a clear dark amber - fizzy - moderate head - nose of dusty yeast, toasty grains, light esters, orange peel - a tad sweet up front, but the flavor is mostly snappy, toasted grains, yeast, light cherry - herbal bitterness on the tail end - lingering dustiness - nothing all that complex, but not anything I would call flawed - meh.
